As always, thanks to MTG Salvation, linked below, for the spoiler art/cards. On September 26th, 2019, the next Magic: The Gathering expansion hits MTG Arena: Throne of Eldraine! With every new set, there are new mechanics, new characters, and of course, outstanding new cards to try out! Some of them will affect more than the Standard Meta, though. Some of them, like Once Upon a Time to me feels like it could really affect pretty much all modes of gameplay. An instant you can cast for free if it’s the first spell you cast in a game? You can look at the top five cards, reveal a creature or land and put it into your hand? For free? Then you can just hard cast your next ramp/land seeking card. It’s brilliant. Throne of Eldraine offers us something new, with the fairy-tale story/vibe. Wolves that blow houses down, Food Tokens, new Planeswalkers, and of course, more Fairies than you can shake a stick at. Before I highlight some of my personal favorite cards, … [Read more...] about Magic: The Gathering: Throne of Eldraine Spoiler Discussion
Not too long ago, we sat down and had a chat with the Closers developers, about the newest character coming to the game, “The Girl With Two Souls”, Set. She’s an interesting character, and so we were all too glad to learn more about her. In addition, Pre-Creation for Seth is now available in Closers, and Seth launches on September 10th, 2019. Don’t miss out on securing your name! Ragachak: Seth is known as “The Girl with Two Souls” and is imbued with the soul of the demon Sekhmet. Is her story tied to any of the other Closers? Closers: Seth’s story is closely related to other characters in Wildhüter. Bai Winchester knew Seth before she joined the team. When Seth ran away from UNION, Bai Ragachak: The Wildhüters are all varied and interesting. What design model inspired this character? Closers: Seth is a wild being who fights with claws. There are several very famous characters that use claws, you … [Read more...] about Closers – Developer Interview about Wildhuter Seth
I used to love World of Warcraft. Really, I did. It was the game that I sunk thousands of hours into, across about 13 years. After Wrath of the Lich King, the enchantment of the MMO started to wear off. Dailies were really an advent of Burning Crusade, but they were, in my estimation, tested with the Ahn Qiraj event, way back in vanilla. Over the last couple of expansions, dailies became a necessity: If you weren’t doing them, you weren’t keeping up and weren’t as relevant or important. Classic WoW has seen a major resurgence of people subbing to World of Warcraft again though. I have zero desire to play retail Warcraft, but I did get talked into playing Classic. Was that the plan all along? Revive sagging numbers with a desperate ploy? Years have gone by and all we heard was “We won’t ever make a Vanilla server, nobody wants that”. Here we are, in 2019, and Vanilla WoW feels far more relevant and important than whatever … [Read more...] about Why is Classic WoW More Enjoyable Than Retail World of Warcraft?
I’ve asked for a few years now, “If we have Hades, why not Persephone?” Even for a Greek God, she has such an interesting backstory. When I realized she was on the way, I hoped and prayed for another Guardian. Come on, you know my schtick by now. The role fits for such a loving, protecting goddess, especially the goddess of the Harvest – honest! Well, I was close, because she is a Magic-user. The Greek Pantheon receives yet another Mage, and I wither away a little inside. She’s a blast to play though, and her kit is definitely unique. Boy, can she do a lot! Her leap passes through walls, she can heal herself, and she has horrifying range. Her ultimate is a beautiful root/aoe that even works if you blast a wall with it. Despite her role, I enjoy playing Persephone; it’s pretty rare I have fun with a Mage. She feels like she has a lot of possibility as a utility god, forcing people to play her (and her team’s) game. Persephone, daughter of Zeus … [Read more...] about SMITE God Review – Persephone, Queen of the Underworld
Now that Gamescom is slowing down, I’ve taken some time to really consider what appealed to me the most, and why. Despite seeing well over a hundred announcements over the course of the week, not a lot genuinely blew me away. Unfortunately, few of the announcements were for MMOs, but there’s still PAX, TGS, and other shows to come this year. Gamescom 2019 did have something for everyone, and we at MMOHuts are all very excited to see more content coming our way. Of course, we don’t always agree on what the best announcements were, so I figured I’d just list mine here. There are, of course, honorable mentions, because there are simply so many damn good games coming out. I wanted to mention One Pirate Musou 4 because I’ve really walked back how I feel about the anime. The Musou games are also terrific. On the topic of anime, the One Punch Man game, One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows is going to be incredible, I can feel it in my … [Read more...] about Gamescom 2019 Highlights: Ragachak Edition
