One of the most cherished -- and rarest -- mounts in World of Warcraft is the Horseman's steed that can only be obtained during the annual Hallow's End event. This year, Hallow's End will run from now through November 1st and provides players with an opportunity to trick or treat throughout Azeroth, stink bomb an opposite faction city and / or earn nearly a dozen achievements. New for this year is the Headless Horseman's Hearthstone toy. All together now! —the Headless Horseman is back to set fire to Razor Hill and Goldshire once more. You’ll need to lend a hand on the bucket brigade to put them out and face the infamous rider. It would be a lovely time of year to take a stroll through the Scarlet Monastery’s Graveyard if the Headless Horseman hadn’t decided to make it his new lair. If you're lucky and succeed in routing this menace from within, you may ride off with his steed. Throughout Hallow’s End, characters level 23-120 will be able to queue up for … [Read more...] about Hallow’s End Kicks Off In World of Warcraft
The Blizzard team has acknowledged that there are issues with the current iteration of Azerite gear in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth. Azerite armor fits into three available slots (head, shoulder, chest) and contains a number of mostly passive traits that can enhance a variety of abilities for players. However, the community has generally had a number of issues with the system. Blizzard has now admitted that there are three key areas where improvements are needed. The post begins with a discussion of three issues Blizzard believes are central to the general dislike players have for the Azerite system: availability - while there is lots available, most is sub-340 iLevel even when participating in endgame content lack of agency - choices aren't having a meaningful impact on how the character is played trait depth Going forward, the team will be implementing several changes designed to address each of the points above including: making gear more available, … [Read more...] about Blizzard Fesses Up to Problems with World of Warcraft’s Azerite Gear
The template for all online games grew out of the 1990s. Many people recall Everquest as the game which changed everything and it did, trust me. However, before you had EQ, you had UO. Ultima Online created the core ideas and concepts that have driven the MMO genre for 21 straight years. Ultima gave us an early look at what PvP on a large scale might be like, it allowed players to explore a world together for the first time. Ultima Online was a revolution, and it changed everything.Logging into the screen for the first time and creating a character was not easy back then. There were no preset templates. You had to hook in by phone modem which was, well, a risky attempt at best. Once you got started there was always the fear of crashing. As you entered the world you met NPCs and players. Sometimes unsure which was which. You found your niche whether it was crafting or combat. You learned spells and maybe even were lucky enough to ride a horse.PvP was something that had barely been … [Read more...] about What Ultima Online Gave us 21 Years Ago

The latest World of Warcraft expansion has been out since August 14th and while it has garnered decent praise for its story and excellent level design, Battle for Azeroth has simultaneously been plagued by more than a few major technical issues, not to mention a -legion- of smaller woes. After the stellar launch of Legion and other past expansions, players are left wondering if Battle for Azeroth was taken out of the oven just a bit too early. advertisement Now let's be clear here: The purpose of the article is not to review Battle for Azeroth or to take on its story, level design or features. What is at issue are the number of technical problems that the expansion faces. The simple premise is that Battle for Azeroth is not up to the standards we've come to expect from a Blizzard product. Before launching into some of the bigger issues that players are faced with in BfA, it is worth noting that far too many of the things players have discovered have been present … [Read more...] about World of Warcraft: Beta for Azeroth
The World of Warcraft site has been updated with a pair of newsy news items. In the first, devs detail a number of changes coming to the item listing process on the WoW Auction House. In the second, an exploit that allowed players to "farm" quests repeatedly to gain Exalted reputations has been identified and hotfixed. Players who took advantage of the exploit will be punished, though no word has come down yet on what that punishment will be. Since the launch of Battle for Azeroth, players have complained about how laggy the interface has been as it culls through available items for sale. Much of this has been caused by thousands of listings of single items, particularly trade goods. "One thing we've identified as particularly troublesome is a large volume of trade skill materials being auctioned off in stacks of 1." the post reads. At issue is the fact that the listing price is currently very low per item listed. That will, however, be changing. The price to list items … [Read more...] about World of Warcraft Auction House Changes & Reputation Exploit Closed
A pair of interesting interviews about World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth have cropped up, one with Game Director Ion Hazzikostas and John Hight about the drama and issues around the expansion pre-event. The other is with former Blizzard developer Chris Metzen on the issue of nerd toxicity. On the issue of the controversy surrounding the Burning of Teldrassil and the community reaction: I noticed is how many people felt like the Burning of Teldrassil was supposed to be this big mystery. People expected a twist and felt like Blizzard set it up that way. Going back and watching some older developer Q&As, though, I couldn't find much evidence of that. What happened there, from your perspective? Hazzikostaks: On the internet, as this giant game of telephone to some extent, things can definitely take on a life of their own. At Blizzcon 2017, I remember Alex Afrasiabi teed up the question of who struck first: The Burning of [Teldrassil] or the assault on Lordaeron? But that was … [Read more...] about WoW’s Game Director On BfA’s Pre-Event; Metzen on Toxic Nerd Culture

Blizzard has rolled out a new World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth build that is paving the way for the future addition of War Mode, the open world "toggle-able" PvP experience coming with the expansion. Game designer 'Phalanx' has posted some brief facts about four different aspects of War Mode, including the brand new Bounty Hunting feature. During War Mode, players will have Honor Talents enabled as they do when entering instanced PvP. Once War Mode is toggled by a player in a capital city, Honor Talents become active and remain so for the entire time the player is flagged for PvP. During PvP combat, gear will be scaled to a roughly equivalent level between combatants. If a player's gear is better than the opponent, they will still have a slight advantage, but a reasonable one. Players will earn Conquest during World PvP, a nice addition to the pool of activities where Conquest can be earned. The more opponents a player kills during War Mode, the more likely they … [Read more...] about New War Mode Details Revealed
The World of Warcraft community site has been updated with a new article to provide readers with a brief look at two of the 'Allied Races' coming with the Battle for Azeroth expansion. Both the Mag'har Orcs (Horde) and Dark Iron Dwarves (Alliance) are provided with contextual lore connecting them to each faction as well as a look at what classes each can be and what their racial traits are. For untold generations, the orc clans of Draenor battled one another in endless war. But when Gul'dan offered them the blood of his demonic masters, the disparate tribes of Mag'har—the orcish word for "uncorrupted"—refused the dark bargain and banded together to drive out the Burning Legion. United under the leadership of Grommash Hellscream, the Mag'har pledged to one day repay Azeroth's heroes for aiding their cause. As war against the Alliance intensifies, the Horde must call upon the might of the Mag'har to seize victory. Check it out on the World of Warcraft community site. … [Read more...] about Blizzard Previews Dark Iron Dwarves & Mag’har Orcs

Rest assured that there is still a subscription option available with no restrictions. Preliminary Endless Journey restrictions have been added to TC1. World of Warcraft will be growing soon with the Battle for Azeroth expansion. The story’s premise marks a return to the faction war after the defeat of the Burning Legion. Horde and Alliance worked cooperatively to bring down Sargeras and his forces in Legion. However, peace is a fragile thing and tensions are mounting between the two for many reasons. After Sargera’s massive sword plunged into the heart of Azeroth itself, each side is rushing to discover what the mysterious substance is bubbling out of the ground and how it can be best put to use…or to be kept out of the hands of their opponent. advertisement Horde and Alliance, at least in theory, will be making tough choices. These may, Ion Hazzikostas said in a recent Q&A, seem morally gray, but will, in the end, be for the greater good. “Evil is a matter of perspective,” Hazzikostas said in April. “Warcraft is supposed to involve shades of gray.”It … [Read more...] about World of Warcraft
