So all the way back in November of 2016 I posted a video titled “Top 10 Best Free to Play MMORPG Games of 2016-2017“.over 350,000 views and almost a thousand comments. Some people were disappointed with a few of the games listed, others were surprised some of those games were still alive. With all of this in mind, I want to take this opportunity to go over what I believe are the current Best Free to Play MMORPG Games of 2018. Please be aware though that just because I believe these are the best does not in any way mean they are – you may actually hate multiple of the games in question, even. With all of the important stuff now out of the way, let’s jump into the video, yeah? How could I not start this off with one of the quirkiest games on the market?WildStar‘s population issues – it should be titled “Dying Star“, ha.. ha ha. Yeah. We’ve all heard the jokes, the people crying “The game is dead” and the like. … [Read more...] about The Very Best Free to Play MMORPG Games of 2018
Free to play
Let me start this off by saying when I was growing up I was a very poor kid. I grew up in a poor family and couldn’t afford most video games. I, therefore, ended up renting them. Now, I’ve played a lot of MMORPGs over the years, most of them free to play, and a couple of them pay to play. This was after I got much older though and could actually afford a subscription based MMORPG. World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, Rift when it was still a good game, TERA when it was pay to play. They all seemed so much better than popular free to play games like Fiesta, Perfect World, Revelation Online, Closers. So what makes pay to play MMORPGs that much better? Or for that matter, do you even believe pay to play MMORPGs are? I do. I know what you’re thinking. “It’s because pay to play MMORPGs have huge budgets! They can put more time, effort and money into their game.” With that being said, what makes people so inclined to play a pay to play MMORPG? Is it … [Read more...] about What Makes Pay To Play MMORPGs Better Than Free To Play MMORPGs?
Before I get into anything, I would like to inform you guys that this list will be a continuation to our previous Top free to play MMORPG list, and therefore none of the games listed there will be found in this list, thus it being (Part 2)! With that out of the way, I’ll be talking to you guys about what I believe are The Best Free To Play MMORPGs (discluding the previously mentioned MMOs.) One of the very few superhero MMORPGs on the market. Although admittedly not as good in my opinion gameplay-wise, Champions Online is nevertheless an incredibly entertaining MMORPG. It has a lesser focus on story elements and a larger emphasis on freedom to do what you want and create what you want than its competitor, DC Universe Online. I am not comparing the two, simply stating that the reason Champions Online is on this list is because of the freedom the game gives you and the quirky style of game it is. From what we’ve seen it doesn’t take itself seriously. And that … [Read more...] about The Best Free To Play MMORPGs Of 2017
It’s been a while since we last talked to Derek Smart. A year and a half, almost, if you’ve been keeping count. Last time we talked about Quest Online and Alganon, focusing on aspects of free to play and how Quest Online was promoting the game. With the approach of Line of Defense and a few changes over the past year in the free to play market, I thought it was about time to get back in touch. In the interview, we discuss Line of Defense including plans for the game’s monetization, the use of lockboxes in other titles, and some thoughts on the competition for Line of Defense. I always enjoy the opportunity to have a chat with Mr. Smart, he’s one of the few people I can trust to not hold back or filter his answers through a PR machine. You may know Derek Smart from Alganon, Line of Defense, as well as the Battlecruiser line of space simulators. Q. How will Line of Defense balance free to play with a premium model? Players gain Combat Experience Points (CEP) by … [Read more...] about Derek Smart Returns: Free To Play, Line of Defense, Lockboxes
I know what you’re thinking: “Omali, you clearly don’t have a punchline ready for this segment,” and you would be one hundred percent correct, but I have good news. In my continuing efforts to branch MMO Fallout from the normalcy of sarcastic comments, random videos, rants, sales, and “I told you so” moments, I’ve decided to start trying to get interviews with various developers, starting with my first phase: “How Free Can You Be?” I’ll be trying to get interviews with various free to play developers, about their outlook and particular take on the business model. So with fresh taser burns from my daily trash looting at the Bioware offices, I chatted with Derek Smart about Quest Online and Alganon. First off, I want to thank you for taking time out of your busy day to talk about Alganon and Quest Online. For those reading this who might not play Alganon, tell us a bit about Alganon and Quest Online and yourself. I have been a … [Read more...] about Derek Smart Talks: Alganon, Free To Play
