Change of pace for The Secret World Monday this week; while my fellow guildmates helped one of our own complete the last Elite dungeon he needed for the achievement and to unlock the gatekeeper, I was able to finally do some questing in the game world. Most importantly, I really wanted to finally finish the main story quest line because it has been more than a year since the game’s been out, and yet I STILL don’t have it done. It was getting embarrassing. And also, I could desperately use the AP/SP. Running dungeons unfortunately hasn’t been getting me too far in that department, and it’s been a while since I completed a pre-made deck and earned a new outfit. Anyway, I was very close already (at tier 24/29 or something like that) while in the Carpathian Fangs in Transylvania, and so it was totally doable in one sitting. Being in Elite gear now also really helped speed things up. By the end of the night, I could proudly say I have “completed” the … [Read more...] about TSW Monday: “Mortal Sins” Committed, Er, Completed!
Ick, these TSW vampires are real sick bastards. In The Secret World this week, my Monday night posse and I thought to press on with the Elite dungeons we haven’t done and decided attempting the Slaughterhouse. As it turned out, that place is perhaps too aptly named. I won’t go into all the demoralizing details here, but fellow guildie Tententacles pretty much summed up our hapless adventures for the evening in his nicely written post-Secret Monday report. On the other hand, such humbling experiences make me wax nostalgic for the early days of the game when it was new and each dungeon encounter strategy would boil down to “Well okay, gang, let’s just keep hurling our dead bodies at him until he dies!” We’ve been crushing familiar content for a while, sometimes I forget it was the result of all the pains involved with learning and experimenting with the fights at the beginning. We all know how it is. While it was frustrating as all hell, it was … [Read more...] about Screenshot Of The Day: The Slaughterhouse
My playtime in Star Trek Online had tapered off somewhat at the end of the summer’s Risa event. After all, I’d done my part and earned my Risian corvette, and the only thing left to do was to fly happily into the (figurative) sunset as the captain of the classiest ride in space. Another event brought me back this weekend, though, and the temptation of another free ship had absolutely nothing to do with it. And if you believed that, I have a very nice bridge to sell you. And not the starship kind either. But still, last week did see the launch of the latest Feature Episode “Sphere of Influence”, and all characters from every faction level 10 or higher can hail D’Tan and get a mission to travel to New Romulus where you’ll serve as a representative during the reactivation of an Iconian Gateway. Sounds awesome. And all right, fine, even though I was never the biggest The Next Generation fan, I have to say the prospect of working side by side with Worf … [Read more...] about Star Trek Online: Sphere Of Influence And Fun With Worf
The legendary cloak wasn’t something I expected ever to get, but at the beginning of September when I resubbed to World of Warcraft I saw that things for the quest chain were in full swing. With a game-wide buff Gaze of the Black Prince increasing rep gain and drop rate for the raid items you need, I figured there’s no harm in trying for it – and there’s no time like the present. I’m also grateful for Tententacles for also going for the legendary cloak chain, because without him doing it too, I honestly don’t think I would have been as motivated! So, seven weeks or so later (I did get lucky these last couple of weeks with Titan Runestones), I finally got my cloak on my Monk. And just in time too, with the prepatch for the next expansion said to drop next Tuesday, and apparently the quest chain will go away. If you’re still thinking of going for the cloak, this may be your last chance to start, because starting Tuesday next week it might not be … [Read more...] about WoW: We Are Legendary
Wait, what’s this? A Secret World post on a Friday? Surprise! Yesterday, a few of my guildies and I put together an impromptu TSW night, to try our hand at another Nightmare. Thanks to the tips and advice from helpful commenters in my last post, we had a better idea of which dungeon to do. Seems to me the overall consensus is that Darkness War is the best entry level NM, so that is exactly what we did. Sometimes I have to remind myself that TSW is a whole different beast than other MMOs, that typical assumptions — such as, the first chronological dungeon in a game is always the easiest — are not always the case! Polaris, for example, is apparently quite the toughie on NM mode. Now I actually feel a lot better about getting as far as we did, for a group just starting out. And to have almost beat the last boss too. It didn’t occur to me that most groups do the first five bosses in the various dungeons first, getting more adequately geared up in epics before … [Read more...] about TSW: Nightmare Darkness War
