As of last night my wife and I (I will now say "we") officially finished the Kingdom Hearts series! This is a huge accomplishment for us, and one we've been working on together for the past three year as we awaited the launch of Kingdom Hearts 3. If you're uninitiated, the first game originally came out in 2002 for the Playstation 2. The series has since expanded with games releasing on the DS, 3DS, PS3, and PS4. Since their original launches, all of the games are now available in some form or another on the PS4, contained with the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. (Links are to the official KH website) The Order to Play Kingdom Hearts Games The order we recommend for playing the Kingdom Hearts games is as follows, and this is the order we'll share our thoughts. Note that this is not the chronological order, but rather the order we feel the series presents itself best in, and the order where everything will make most sense -- if … [Read more...] about I Finally Finished the Kingdom Hearts Series

This week week in MMO crowdfunding, DDOCentral pointed us to a thread on the Dogma Eternal Night website that sheds light on what’s gone awry with the game. The vampire MMO missed funding on Kickstarter back in 2015 and had begun taking preorders by 2016, but earlier this year, its community manager resigned, leaving fans adrift. Now that CM has returned for a check-in and says the game’s founder “basically called it quits without telling you guys and doesn’t plan to continue.” According to this rep, the game’s devs had been in talks with White Wolf and Paradox (!) about cooperating on the game, but the founder wasn’t having it. “Had I known this latter information before leaving, I would’ve raised hell to [the founder] for passing up such an opportunity that was given,” he says. Yikes. Meanwhile, Shroud of the Avatar severed ties with its EU publisher, Star Citizen posted a Q&A for the Anvil … [Read more...] about Make My MMO: Former Dogma Eternal Night CM blasts studio over stymied White Wolf partnership
This week week in MMO crowdfunding, Project Gorgon has been cooking up a big patch. “Next week’s update includes a new city for players with skills in the low-40s-ish range,” the devs tweeted. “If you aren’t yet high-enough level, don’t worry: we’ll be running a +20% combat XP event from tomorrow till the update!” Camelot Unchained’s beta one continues with new stuff too; CSE says it’s been hard at work on the crafting UI and crafting system, among other bits. Notably, it’s promising a live presentation of the mage class for backers and followers. “You will not need to buy a ticket to see this presentation,” CSE’s Tyler Rockwell says in a clear dig on Star Citizen. Ouch! Meanwhile, Crowfall previewed the Urgu clan, Shroud of the Avatar previewed its boxed edition, Star Citizen elaborated on its latest concept ship, Pantheon teased its fall pre-alpha, and Ship of Heroes demonstrated street-sweeping … [Read more...] about Make My MMO: Project Gorgon builds a new city, Camelot Unchained teases Star Citizen
NCSoft, the team behing Blade and Soul, Aion, WildStar, Lineage and more have revealed their plan to release a new PC MMORPG – yes, you heard that correctly: PC MMORPG – not a mobile port, not a mobile remastering.. A PC Aion MMORPG set in the Aion world. As of right now specifics are being kept under wraps as it is supposed to be kept “top secret”. All that is known thus far is that it is an MMORPG built on Unreal Engine 4 in the Aion universe. This came to light with the recent job opening from NCSoft describing a new “next-generation console and PC MMORPG” project, utilizing 3DS Max to “create character / monster / animation resources for the concept and development environment.” Unreal Engine 4 has given us some of the best looking games to date, with games like ARK: Survival Evolved, the new Final Fantasy VII Remake, Geare of War 4, Injustice 2, Kingdom Hearts III, Octopath Traveler and more. Below is an example of what Unreal … [Read more...] about NCSoft Working On New Aion MMORPG Made With Unreal Engine 4!
I am once again starting this post ahead of my normal morning routine because there is just too much stuff to cover for me to cram it all in without a little pre-work. As a result some of my tenses might go haywire given that I am at least in theory writing parts of this at different times. Hopefully you will bear with me, because it feels like the conferences are way more tightly stacked than they have been in past years. On Monday June 11th we had Square Enix, Ubisoft, PC Gaming Show and the Sony presser and I am attempting to cover at least all of the things that interested me from each. Square Enix – 1 pm EST This one was a bit of a let down and did not follow the standard E3 press junket format, but instead reminded me an awful lot of a Nintendo Direct. Instead of a bunch of commentary connecting the clips we just got a rapid fire succession of trailers back to back. The truth is… there just wasn’t a lot here that really interested … [Read more...] about E3 Monday Roundup: Square Enix/Ubisoft/PC Gaming/Sony
