The battle of the loot shooters is well and truly underway. Both Anthem and The Division 2 are out right now, and having played both, the latter is hands down the superior game. Massive and Ubisoft has beaten the “sequel” game syndrome to produce a stunning game that more than doubles the depth, fun and addictive factor of the the first game. In comparison, BioWare’s Anthem is a solid first entry for its brand new franchise. However, while parts of Anthem are fun, it’s not a well rounded game that The Division 2 is. Here are some things The Division 2 does better than Anthem. The Loot Getting the obvious out of the way first, The Division 2 knows what keeps players around, and that’s loot and itemization to complement the gameplay. The Division 2 makes good use of a huge array of gear, weapons and skill components that all ties into a natural progression. You feel more powerful and effective when your out about exploring, doing missions, PvP-ing the Dark … [Read more...] about Top 5 Things The Division 2 Does Better Than Anthem

The second volume of Final Fantasy XIV’s Encyclopedia Eorzea was the only item I wanted to get on the floor of the fan festival a few weeks back; alas, it was sold out when I went to buy it, and thus was I forced to order it online and wait for its delivery. And then fight with UPS when their driver repeatedly failed to deliver it properly, which was less fun (those of you who follow me on Twitter got to catch that part). But now it’s here, and it’s mine, and it’s still an utterly impossible piece of work to review beyond a single fixed point. What do I mean by that? Well, let’s put it thusly: The second volume of the Encyclopedia Eorzea contains two pages discussing verb tenses and syntax for Dragonspeak. This is either going to sound to you like something that is at least of mild interest, or it is going to sound like homework. If it’s the latter, this book isn’t for you. If it’s the former? Not only is this book for you, but I … [Read more...] about Final Fantasy XIV’s second Encyclopedia Eorzea is even better than the first
With last week’s launch of the revamped and rebooted Defiance 2050, Trion Worlds was betting on players flocking back to the sci-fi MMO shooter now that it’s seen improvements and adopted a free-to-play model. However, it doesn’t seem as though the community is giving its approval for the latest version of this game, at least according to Steam, where Defiance 2050 is weathering “mostly negative” reviews. One common complaint is that the relaunched MMO isn’t really that much different or better than the old game — yet players have to start over from scratch (in an eerily similar situation to last year’s Secret World Legends reboot). Other frequent criticisms include the proliferation of lockboxes, server instability, old bugs that haven’t been fixed, and not enough recognition or extras for players coming from the original game. Site Kitguru ran Defiance 2050 through a series of benchmarks and compared it to the original game, … [Read more...] about Defiance 2050 performs better than its predecessor but hasn’t won the community over
A lot has happened in the Gloria Victis development over the last few months. One of the most important changes, crucial for the game’s open world PvP and non-target combat formula, is the recently applied huge synchronization & controller update. Let me start this off by saying when I was growing up I was a very poor kid. I grew up in a poor family and couldn’t afford most video games. I, therefore, ended up renting them. Now, I’ve played a lot of MMORPGs over the years, most of them free to play, and a couple of them pay to play. This was after I got much older though and could actually afford a subscription based MMORPG. World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, Rift when it was still a good game, TERA when it was pay to play. They all seemed so much better than popular free to play games like Fiesta, Perfect World, Revelation Online, Closers. So what makes pay to play MMORPGs that much better? Or for that matter, do you even believe pay to play MMORPGs are? I do. I know what you’re thinking. “It’s because pay to play MMORPGs have huge budgets! They can put more time, effort and money into their game.” With that being said, what makes people so inclined to play a pay to play MMORPG? Is it … [Read more...] about What Makes Pay To Play MMORPGs Better Than Free To Play MMORPGs?
