Ever since the NDA was lifted for the Star Wars: The Old Republic beta, my guildies in the Republic Mercy Corps/Imperial Mercenary Corps have been trying to pool together our media and share them with each other. There was a wealth of screenies to go through, mostly because a few of my fellow RMCers have been in testing for almost a year! Some of the gorgeous images I saw gave me the inspiration for this post. It’s so hard to really say which planet in SWTOR is my favorite. They all appeal to me for different reasons — I love the colors of Nar Shaddaa, I love the beauty of Ilum, I love the history of Taris, I like how BioWare has captured the atmosphere of Tatooine, etc. etc. etc. Thanks to my friend Maric for allowing me to use some of his screenshots here. Edit: Mild spoilers about the planets, but no spoilers regarding any of the stories. Coruscant A Republic character’s first destination after they finish their respective starter planet. The first time I saw … [Read more...] about Planetary Album

A History With Stars Wars It would be a slight understatement if I were to say that Stars Wars has meant a lot to me over the years. It pretty much represents my childhood wrapped up with a neat little bow. The earliest memory I have is of seeing Star Wars at the local drive-in theater sometime around age two. I became absolutely obsessed with it, and according to my parents walked around the house pretending to be “Darfa Bader”. If nothing else it was the toys that kept the fires lit for me from the moment I started watching through the end of the original trilogy. I played and replayed the scenes from Star Wars so many times with the action figures, and in many ways it was my first foray into storytelling. Sure I started by simply mimicking what I saw on screen, but quickly branched out into telling my own elaborate stories revolving around the cast of characters I knew and loved. I eventually moved on like all kids do to other … [Read more...] about The Force Awakens
Seriously, tears came to my eyes. It’s official; every situation is like five million times more intense when translated into Shyriiwook. This week’s Star Wars: The Old Republic Friday update is a pretty creative and funny April Fool’s gag, but there’s more to it than meets the eye. Community Manager Stephen Reid hinted at looking at the characters’ faces. Helloooo, we have expressions! On the surface, a rather small “reveal”, but a welcome one nonetheless. In fact, I’m quite happy with the inclusion of expressions and blinking, as well as a wide variety of emotes. After all, I remember a few months ago nitpicking over the lack of facial expressions the characters’ “deadpan eyes” in one of the Cinematic Design videos, so really, I have all the cause to rejoice. Nice job, BioWare animators, you guys sure don’t leave any stone unturned! I am also reminded of one of the reasons why I love following games in … [Read more...] about SWTOR: May The Fool Be With You
I didn’t follow E3 as closely today, playing some catch up with my work instead (on account of all the time I puttered away yesterday, watching all the presentations). I did, however, catch a couple of Star Wars: The Old Republic live streams and features. One of them was a live demo session hosted by Daniel Erickson from the show floor, answering fan questions and showcasing a Bounty Hunter questing on the planet of Tatooine. The video can be viewed here. My interest was piqued immediately, for not only is the Bounty Hunter my class of choice, BioWare had also been teasing Tatooine for a couple weeks now and I was really looking forward to seeing it. Everything sort of fled my mind, however, the moment they revealed Blizz the little Jawa companion. Tally another point under the “Reasons to play a Bounty Hunter” column, please! Oh em gee, will you just look at how cute and cuddly he is. Though, I almost choked to death on my Coke when someone actually asked if he was … [Read more...] about SWTOR: Utinni!
Yesterday I talked a bit about my feelings after watching Last Jedi and how they have actually soured further as time has gone on. One of the things to know about me and this blog is that I often use it to work through things. My hope is by getting all of my complaints out of the printed page… or pixel page in this case I will be able to move past them and reach a point where I start to remember the good more than the bad. Yesterday I mentioned that today I would be focusing on individual complaints so without further ado… here comes a bunch of rambling commentary about various points in the movie. Be warned this is full of spoilers and you should not in any universe read this before you actually watch the movie. The following are going to be a bunch of loosely connected thoughts I’ve had in thinking about the movie. One of the core themes of the movie is that each of the characters needs to learn something or change in some … [Read more...] about Airing of Grievances
