At some point this year — I think — Lord of the Rings Online will be adding Rohan housing to the game, which will be the first new housing type since the premium Belfalas mansions arrived a few years ago. CM Jerry Snook confirmed this in an interview back in April when he said, “So, we’re going to be looking at new housing probably right after the expansion, in which case we’re looking at Rohan housing around the time before Rohan comes to the legendary servers.” He later went on to specificy that “that won’t be the last housing. I know the players are looking for housing all over the place.” As someone who has been drooling over Rohan housing ever since that expansion showed us the architecture and interiors of the horse-lords, I’m ecstatic over this. I’m eagerly anticipating the day when I’ll be moving my little Hobbit out of a hole and into a cozy rustic log cabin of sorts. And while I’m really glad to … [Read more...] about How LOTRO could zazz up its housing system
Amending accounts filed at companies house
This topic came up today, and I was wondering! Specifically, I'd like to have a Beastman with a house in Arboreus, a Human with a house in Syndesia, and a Demon with a house in Tartaros. Will that be doable in any way? Say: maybe I can only have one claim per account anywhere in Fractured, but can I at least buy multiple city plots per account, on different toons in different places? … [Read more...] about Can each of our account toons have a house?
Play Final Fantasy XIVPatch 4.1 arrived in Final Fantasy XIV, and the Shirogane housing rush came and went exactly how everyone familiar with the game had been expecting for months on end. The plots available sold out in a matter of minutes, the people who were lucky enough to get in ahead of the queues were the ones who got new houses, and everyone else was left to rant and rave. Frankly, it all worked great, technically speaking; there were no sudden disconnections, no horrid lag spikes, no zone crashes, nothing. Everything worked exactly as it was supposed to and nothing broke, which means that by definition, nothing went wrong. Well, unless you count shining a harsh light on the game’s horribly misguided housing design as “something going wrong.” A lot of discussions about this seem to be missing the point. It’s not that what happened with Shirogane housing was a disaster; it was a model of efficiency and the game working as intended. Calling it a disaster … [Read more...] about Wisdom of Nym: Final Fantasy XIV has a serious housing problem for basically no reason
Belgarde Keep Over the last two days there have been a couple of significant patches to Landmark. You can check out the patch notes here… here for more information. The most exciting of the changes is the fix to the way trees/plants/rocks kept respawning on our claims with no real way to remove them. In previous shots of my forest keep the overall view had been obstructed by a couple of giant trees. Now you can see a fairly clear view of the place. I have given up on calling it a temple, because really it no longer looks anything at all like a temple. Instead I have officially renamed it to “Belgarde Keep”. Last night I spent quite a bit of work starting to flesh out the details. You can see in this image that we now have the wooden posts sticking out from each floor as though they were coming from the ceiling beams. Additionally I have started replacing my main columns with ones that include some inset stucco. … [Read more...] about Married at the House of Vacuums
This is part 2 of the “Housing in MMOs” series. Part 1 was looking at Lord of the Rings Online. Today’s MMO is Aion. This blog post was largely written by thevalliant and edited by me in some parts. While I did play around with my free studio in Aion, I really don’t know that much more about housing in the game, so I asked somebody who does. When reading this article, please keep in mind that we both play on the European servers which are handled by Gameforge while the US servers are still handled by NCsoft. There may be differences in details like item shops, etc. between those two versions. There are 5 types of residences in Aion: studios, houses, mansions, estates and palaces, in order of grandeur. These can be found in three areas for each race (Elyos and Asmodians): two ‘contested’ areas (where PvP may occur) and one ‘neutral’ area, that is the main ‘residential area’ for each race, Oriel (Elyos) and Pernon (Asmodians). … [Read more...] about Housing in MMOs: Aion
