I am happy to announce that the Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood story summary is now complete and available here on the Land of Odd. Just like with the other story summaries, it’s broken up into each patch starting with 4.0 and going through 4.5 with links at the top of the page so you can skip right to the section you want to read. I just want to thank you all for being patient with me while I completed this. I know some people wanted it ready before Shadowbringers launched and I knew I didn’t have the time to write all this up and grind to have a high enough iLevel to do the Grimlyt Dark dungeon before the expansion released, so again I appreciate all of your patience with me. I once again am going to try to not fall behind as much in Shadowbringers. Cross your fingers! You can find the story summary HERE or in the menu at the top of the site. As I may have mentioned before, short stories that present a cohesive, powerful narrative can hold more worth to me than long, meandering, so-called “epic” storylines in MMOs and other games. I suppose that’s because it’s how video games present themselves. RPGs and their offshoots rarely go through a single huge story in one go like a novel would but instead break it up with side quests and other various activities. It diverts attention from the overarching narrative and eventually weakens my interest in it. In other words, if a main storyline takes me the better part of a month to get through and during that time I’m doing all of these side quests and taking breaks to play other games, I’m probably not going to track that storyline as well or care about it when it resolves. Whereas short stories — shorter quest arcs — have a much better shot at being consumable in one or two sessions and retaining my interest. Plus, I think that … [Read more...] about ESO: Short stories, big experiences
Overwatch short story written by Michael Chu, the senior lore and story designer for Blizzard’s popular shooter. The short story, titled Bastet, features the support healer Ana’s backstory and her friendship with Jack Morrison, a.k.a. Soldier 76. Bastet is set after the events of the lore comic Old Soldiers. Here’s an excerpt from the story: “After days of lying in wait, Ana’s target had appeared in one of Cairo’s opulent, ancient palaces. Abdul Hakim was a king in his own right, one who was using his power and influence to squeeze the life from the city, making himself and his followers rich in the process. But before she had her chance to capture him, the first ghost appeared: Jack Morrison. Though he was masked and had assumed the identity of a vigilante—Soldier: 76—she recognized him immediately. The world believed that Morrison was dead, killed in the destruction of the Overwatch base in Switzerland, but Ana had her doubts. Though … [Read more...] about Blizzard Entertainment Publishes A New Overwatch Short Story Featuring Ana
So with Legion, Blizzard decided to remove the Legendary Ring storyline from the game. Since this storyline does a lot to set up the explanation behind the Legion expansion, as well as go into many of the motivations for staying around on Draenor after the destruction of the Dark Portal, I felt that it was deserving of a story summary so that people can have some level of reference if you want to know what went down in Warlords of Draenor. Chapter I: Call of the Archmage Upon reaching max level, you will find a familiar glowing friend wandering around your garrison. This arcane construct brings word to you from Archmage Khadgar who requests your aid with a mission he has and asks that you come meet with him at his tower in Zangarra. There he, along with trusty Watcher bodyguard Cordana Felsong, explain that to accomplish this mission he will need your help and to do so you will need a special tool that will help you along the way. A powerful piece of equipment … [Read more...] about World of Wacraft: Warlords of Draenor – Legendary Ring Story Summary

I’ve also included a FAQ section at the bottom for some of the more confusing details I’ve had people ask me about the story, and I’ve tried to answer them the best I can.
