One of the informal award type articles we’ve done every year for the last couple of years is this one: the one sussing out the best player community in the genre. As we’ve noted, most gamers assume smaller games where players interact with each other and the devs on the regular – like Lord of the Rings Online – tend to win these polls. But there are also plenty of games with rougher edges that still produce in the kindness department; witness EVE Online players’ generosity this year alone. So forget about a year ago, five years ago, fifteen years ago: Let’s talk about today, this year: Which MMORPG had the best community in 2018, and why? Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind! … [Read more...] about The Daily Grind: What MMO had the best player community in 2018?

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m primarily a PC gamer. When I was a kid, my family couldn’t afford the endless parade of consoles other folks had, so outside of playing on those devices at friends’ houses, I basically jumped from our raggedy old Atari straight to the desktop PC. And I’m pretty comfortable here. Sure, I’ve gamed a bit on console; we have a PS3 and a Wii kicking around, and there’s a Switch wrapped up for Christmas stashed away in my house right now too. But PC gaming is where 99.9% of my expertise lies. I have a feeling I know which MMOs will come out on top with a question like this, but I don’t presume to preach to you. So let’s put it to you folks: Which MMORPG offers the best console experience in 2018? Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred … [Read more...] about The Daily Grind: Which MMORPG offered the best console experience in 2018?
Yesterday, we asked you to examine the best PvP experience of 2018, having noted we won’t be giving an award for it this year. And while we’ll be doing an award for a few specific types of core MMO-centric content, we’re not doling out one for PvE specifically either. And yet, as we noted with some amusement on last week’s podcast, PvE combat content is the backbone of both the traditional and the modern MMORPG. Games without it are few and far between. Let’s face it, MMO players are murderhobos most of the time. It’s what we do. It’s what they make us do. So for today’s Daily Grind, set aside content like building and crafting for a moment and focus on PvE and PvM content specifically. Which MMORPG offered the best PvE experience in 2018? Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your … [Read more...] about The Daily Grind: Which MMORPG offered the best PvE experience in 2018?
Later today, we begin our giant rollout of end-of-the-year awards, a series I both love and hate – love because it’s fun, hate because it’s a tremendous amount of work. But one award you won’t be seeing make a return this year is the award for the best PvP experience. There are lots of reasons for this, but the main one is that it was the least-attended award, both for our writers and our readers. It also seemed weird given that our PvE awards – for crafting, housing, and events – were much more specific. How exactly do you compare arena PvP and battleground PvP and guild warfare to battle royale modes and survival sims and free-for-all gankfests? It wound up being a bit of a throwaway award and not worth formally doling out again. However, it still makes for an interesting question. Which MMORPG offered the best PvP experience in 2018? Is the best MMO PvP experience even found in an MMORPG at all? Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers … [Read more...] about The Daily Grind: Which MMORPG offered the best PvP experience in 2018?
gumi is proud to announce that the popular characters from the anime Fairy Tail are returning to Brave Frontier. From November 1st until November 28th, fan-favorites such as Natsu Dragneel and Lucy Heartfilia are here, alongside some new units from the series. New Units: Wendy Marvell is a Sky Dragon Slayer who draws her power from the air around her. She excels at healing magic, and is able to cure even wounds inflicted by a dragon. Gajeel Redfox, the Iron Dragon Slayer, eating iron allows Gajeel to power up and even change his skin into scales of iron. He also goes by the alias, “Black Steel.” Acnologia, the Black Dragon of the Apocalypse, is so destructive that the mere mention of his name is terror itself. In times long past, it was said that he was capable of single-handedly annihilating a nation and he could wipe islands off the map with but a roar. The Black Wizard, Zeref, has dubbed him “the most dangerous dragon”. Zeref was cursed with … [Read more...] about Brave Frontier Welcomes Fairy Tail Heroes Back in New Event
