Elite Dangerous’ massive Distant Worlds 2 expedition is officially underway. Nearly 11,000 players – and developers! – ultimately signed up for the voyage, which set out yesterday. As we’ve previously reported, the expedition will spend over 20 weeks on an outward bound trip to Beagle Point in an effort to create “the definitive massively multiplayer exploration experience.” In fact, so many people showed up that the first mass jump apparently caused some server instability. Commanders, thank you for your patience. The Elite Dangerous servers are back online and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. https://t.co/8PBlbdA1Re — Elite Dangerous (@EliteDangerous) January 13, 2019 Outages aside, not every ship that set out is going to make it. It would not be unfair to say that this week has been one of the most news-heavy weeks of the year, to the point that Justin actually protested yesterday that there was already too much set aside for our traditional end-of-the-week Mop Up – and it was only Tuesday. He had signs and everything. The biggest crowds!” The most superlative superlatives! Remember back when Ubisoft started auto bans for profanity in Rainbow Six Siege? Yeah, it’s pulling that back a … [Read more...] about Midweek Mop Up: GTAO, Ubisoft, Path of Exile, Heroes & Generals, Foxhole, Vindictus, Crew 2, War of Rights, and more
SuperData has published their monthly Worldwide Digital Games Market Report for March 2018 and it has a few surprises. League of Legends, which has graced the #1 PC spot since the inception of these reports, has finally been dethroned. The venerable MOBA has fallen to #2, usurped by Dungeon Fighter Online. While this does not necessarily indicate a decline in League's numbers (DFO recently held massively successful events), it does at least point to stagnation. We'll have to wait another month to see whether this was an aberration or the start of trend. The other major move in the PC category this month was the continued rise of Fortnite which is now at the #5 position, below Crossfire. Fortnite only launched in China on April 23, so its likely we'll see it continue to shoot up in the months ahead. Fortnite performed even more impressively in the Console category where it took the #1 spot. That console spot will be highly contested in April with games like God of War and Far Cry 5 … [Read more...] about SuperData March 2018 Report Shows League of Legends Dethroned, Fortnite Still Booming
