A long time ago, I published a “Lotro vs. WoW vs. Rift” piece and I figured it’s time to revisit this topic, but with the games I’m currently playing: Rift (things have changed, so it deserves an update), Guild Wars 2 and Trove. Before you want to smack me: Yes, I am well aware that those three games are very different from each other and they all have something special that the others can’t offer. So of course, I will not tell you which game is superior. Also, please keep in mind that Trove is still in open beta and gets new stuff added fairly regularly, Rift is already several years old with two expansions and Guild Wars 2, while not exactly a baby on the market anymore, will receive its first expansion this year. I’m writing this to show you which game offers what in which gameplay area, so that you can make a choice of which game to play if you want to give one of them a try. I personally play all three of these games regularly and I play them … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2 vs. Rift vs. Trove: Part 1 (Basic information)

Guild Wars 2: Do Players Really Need Stats On Their Harvesting Tools?
With Guild Wars 2’s update this week, some quality of life changes has been made to the game’s harvesting and crafting. Unlimited use tools now have upgrade slots, which players can attach glyphs to. These glyphs provide stat enhancers not for combat however, and instead offer players other benefits such as increasing gathering speed. See below for the list of stats: Glyph of the Tailor: Gain a 33% chance to receive bonus cloth scraps. Glyph of the Leatherworker: Gain a 33% chance to receive bonus leather scraps. Glyph of Industry: Gathering completes 50% faster. Glyph of Flight: Increases movement speed for 5 seconds after gathering completes. The game is offering all players (Non F2P) a free glyph from the in-game store to use, but assuming you have more than one unlimited tool, you’ll need to get the rest. So where do they drop from? Something To Gamble On The answer lies within the Black Lion Chests, or the game’s RNG lockbox. Glyphs … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2: Do Players Really Need Stats On Their Harvesting Tools?
Guild Wars 2
It has been widely accepted, albeit begrudgingly, that as companies looked for ways to make monetization more enticing, we the gamers have often been at a loss when it comes to directing how these companies actually do it. Enter, the age of the Loot Box. In their simplest form they are miniature RNG loot containers, but in their most devious form they are Pay to Play slot machines with deceiving rewards. Guild Wars 2 has implemented these loot boxes in the form of Black Lion Chests for a very long time, and with loot boxes under the microscope both by gamers and governments alike, is it time that we say goodbye to Black Lion Chests for good? advertisement A Case Against Black Lion ChestsIn Guild Wars 2, we have years of content which has accumulated so many tiny tidbits of exceptional game perks that I’d argue most gamers aren’t even privy to them all. There are quite a few special knick knacks that players will acquire such as revive orbs, … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2: You Can Level up to 80 without Killing a Thing
Date: 06-12-2012 Views: loading Comment: Have you ever thought that you can level up your character to the max level by just crafting? It sounds impossible because crafting seems just an add-on profession in most MMOs. Well, it now can be achieved in Guild Wars 2 as ArenaNet designer Linsey Murdock stated in a recent forum post, players will be able to level it all the way to 80 without killing a thing but crafting. According to Murdock, it works like this: "For leveling a discipline from 0-400, you will gain 10 levels along the way. By maxing out all 8 disciplines, you will gain 80 levels. That means you could dedicate a character to crafting, feed it all the mats you get on other characters and level it all the way to 80 without ever needing to kill a thing. As hardcore crafters, we think that is pretty cool." Many players shared their concern about that. Some players thought this will turn Guild Wars 2 into a P2W game since players can pay real money for gems and exchange the … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2: You Can Level up to 80 without Killing a Thing
