FanFest is for the fans. It’s an opportunity for players worldwide to come together and celebrate Final Fantasy XIV, meet the developers behind the game, and hear exclusive news first-hand. Members of the press are invited (yours truly included), but interview sessions are usually saved for Gamescom and E3. advertisement However, after a long first day of FFXIV FanFest Paris, producer-director Naoki Yoshida provided the assembled international press with a chance to ask questions about the keynote announcements. From the Shadowbringers expansion and Viera race, to the Nier: Automata collaboration, Yoshida-san provided insight into how these came together. But, as the session progressed, I got the sense of a studio desperately trying to avoid complacency. In his own words, “the original 1.0, Final Fantasy XIV was at a very bad condition initially, but we're now at the point where we've done three Final Fantasy Fan Festival world tours.” Despite that … [Read more...] about Final Fantasy XIV FanFest Paris: An Audience with Yoshida-san

FFXIV Shadowbringers: Yoshida-san Talks Shadowbringers
Shadowbringers is coming. The latest expansion for Final Fantasy XIV arrives on July 2, and producer-director Naoki Yoshida is visibly excited. Under the lush, verdant canopy of the Barbican Conservatory, he introduced some of the key changes currently under development. We also got a chance to go hands-on, playing through two new zones and an early dungeon. On top of this, we also had the opportunity to put our Shadowbringers questions directly to Yoshida-san as part of a round-table interview. We also got the chance to dig into the design process behind Dancer and Gunbreaker. advertisement And, while FFXIV is famed for its collaborations (Monster Hunter World, FFXV, and Nier: Automata to name a few), Yoshida-san does have a few ‘dream franchises’ that he’d love to work with, though his top choices might surprise you. However, it’s … [Read more...] about FFXIV Shadowbringers: Yoshida-san Talks Shadowbringers
Hands-on with Bless Reborn at Neowiz’s San Francisco media reveal
As you probably have heard, there was a Bless influencer event this week, with a couple of media and a smattering of MMO streamers in attendance. The leak of the price points happened soon before we went in, but none of the people in attendance, devs or streamers, really seemed fazed by it. Most people seemed ready to have a good time. The western build-up for me has felt like a big PR push, with the pricing model dangled like a feature that people actually should be excited about. Basic questions like, “How does endgame work?” were easier to find on Reddit, Steam, and fansites than any of the PR I was reading. I was concerned, to say the least, but things like “tame almost any mob!” and “100v100” battles intrigued me. Though nothing I saw is probably going to … [Read more...] about Hands-on with Bless Reborn at Neowiz’s San Francisco media reveal
