With the constant clamoring from fans for Daybreak (or someone) to create an honest-to-goodness next-gen sequel to the EverQuest franchise, you’d hope that it would actually happen someday. Obviously EverQuest Next itself didn’t pan out — not that everyone considered that title a sequel or even deserving of the EQ name. But it was impossible not to find a glimmer of hope at the news that Daybreak was hiring for positions involving a new game. And then even that tiny flame of hope was snuffed out. The upcoming unannounced title is apparently a first-person shooter, a multi-platform FPS. That doesn’t sound very compatible with the Norrath people want. But that doesn’t mean it won’t be the Norrath people get! Now before you hyperventilate: This is just speculation. I know EQIII the FPS is a longshot. If it has any ties to Daybreak’s existing portfolio at all, the new game is much more likely to be related … [Read more...] about EverQuesting: Could Daybreak’s new FPS be an EverQuest?
What can call an MMO blogger out of retirement? A game studio putting in below the bare minimum of effort in its updates seems to do it for MMO Fallout’s Connor, who had some harsh words to say about Daybreak’s handling of H1Z1 these days. “I’d like to pick up the mantle to talk about how Daybreak Game Company is a dead company with a bare bones, barely functioning development team. They just don’t care anymore folks,” Connor said. “As far as game updates go, H1Z1 Season 4 is the That 70’s Show Season 8 of video games. Topher Grace is gone and so is Ashton Kutcher.” Well! That’s an interesting start to this week’s roundup of online gaming essays from the community. Topics that lay in wait include strategies for making gold in World of Warcraft, the characters of SWTOR: Onslaught, and a bizarre story about a giant in Elder Scrolls Online. Misdirections: Can this relationship be saved? “Blizzard has historically been … [Read more...] about Global Chat: Daybreak is a zombie, walking
Fortnite Battle Royale appears to be gearing up for another in-game event this weekend — at least according to countdown timers scattered around the island. Based on these timers, the event should kick off around 11 am pacific time on July 20th. So, what is this event? Well, it hasn’t been officially announced, but according to Eurogamer — which has been keeping track of some recent datamining, the event may likely pit the giant eyeball known as Cattus against the Doggus robot that’s been under construction at the Pressure Plant. Based on all the information available so far, including public service announcement signs telling people to run to higher ground when things get dangerous, it appears players are in for a kaiju vs giant robot style battle of epic proportions. We should note that it looks like a pretty cute robot, though. At least he appears that way in the pictures on Dexerto. … [Read more...] about Signs Point To Another In-Game Fortnite Event This Weekend
Quigley Down Under: Sometimes you have a movie that you only half-remember from when you were younger and you don’t really know if it was actually any good? This one was, though, a Western set in the Australian outback that manages to effectively deal with the inherent issues with the Western genre by moving the setting and changing the heart of the narrative in some smart ways. Runaway: By contrast, this one does not hold up, at all. I liked it when I was younger but the performances are stiff, the camerawork weak, and the interesting premise that it starts out with of a world wherein robots are common but not necessarily humanoid is sort of dropped and replaced with something way more bland quickly. Oh, well. Colossal: Actually I could have written a whole intro just about this movie because it’s amazing and I think basically no one saw it; I was told it existed and found it was on Hulu, and dear lord what an amazing film. If you’ve never seen it, it’ll appeal … [Read more...] about WRUP: Recent movies that I have watched edition
