Maybe I’m alone on this, but the more I examine MMO history, the more it troubles me how many potentially great games never even got a chance to launch. There have been so many promising titles over the years that, for various reasons, were killed off in development prior to release. I would have absolutely loved to have seen what Project Copernicus would have become, especially with the talent behind it. It kills me that I’ll never be able to play Ultima X Odyssey. And let’s face it, Privateer Online might have actually delivered the satisfying space experience that Star Citizen’s been promising for years now. Do you carry a torch for any unreleased MMOs that met an early end in the development phase? What do you imagine might have happened if those games launched? Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your … [Read more...] about The Daily Grind: Do you carry a torch for any MMOs that were killed in development?
Here’s something interesting about Fallout 76’s October beta: Players not only will have access to the full game, but their progress will also carry over into live. Think that’ll spurn a lot more interest in the test? “Our current plan for the B.E.T.A. is it will be the full game and all your progress is saved for launch. We hope you join us!” Bethesda told fans. While that’s pretty exciting, some enthusiasm for this upcoming post-apocalyptic online RPG has been dampened by the word that Fallout 76 won’t be available via Steam — at least at launch. You’ll only be able to access it through Bethesda’s own digital games platform, because you need yet another one of those on your desktop! Source: PCGamesN, CNET. When Carrie Fisher died two years ago this month, I actually sat in my car and cried. This is not something I normally do, feel sad over celebs – it’s absurd. But she wasn’t just a celeb, and when the tributes started flowing in, I realized that basically every person I care about, cared about her – for totally different reasons. She was at the heart of so many important causes and movements, from mental health and body image to addiction and feminism to parenting and geekdom. Even dog lovers loved her. She was a hero to so many more people than I realized. I have a reason for dredging this up and potentially making you sad all over again: Star Wars fans are planning to honor her inside an MMO this week. That MMO is Star Wars Galaxies, specifically the Legends emulator. Here’s the official announcement: “December 27th marks the two year anniversary since Carrie Fisher’s passing and we want to pay tribute to the incredible story our princess, … [Read more...] about Star Wars Galaxies emulator plans Carrie Fisher tribute event on December 27
If you can set aside the fuss over the incoming March Survival mode, Fallout 76 has a patch for you right now with stuff that matters today. In addition to a rather long list of bug fixes and exploit tamp-downs and quality-of-life tweaks for PvP and events, there’s a round of balance changes for folks who like to specialize in blowing stuff up. “In looking at the Demolition Expert, White Knight, and Licensed Plumber perks, we felt they have so far been overperforming in their current roles, and we wanted to bring them more in line with similar perks to help prevent them from feeling like mandatory picks,” Bethsoft says. Carry weight is also changing, now capped to hard limit 1500 pounds over the character’s current maximum carry weight. “These limits exist primarily to keep servers from performing poorly, which can happen when we have too many items in the game world. They also play role in helping to regulate the in-game economy. We do recognize the … [Read more...] about Fallout 76 patches in nerfs for explosions, hard carry weight limits, and a ton of bug fixes
hi dev, i am trying my best to gather stone blocks to build my house. but it seems that i need to gather quite a fair bit of stone blocks. 12 initial blocks plus 11 joining blocks making a total of about 23 blocks. the stones blocks are all quite far away, and your character can only carry one block at a time. the default travel speed is running. but when you pick up stone block, it becomes walking speed instead of running speed. i feel that being forced into walking speed instead of running speed while carrying stone block feels punishing and immersion breaking. i would suggest letting your character pick up the stone blocks and go with running speed instead of walking speed. thank you for reading. … [Read more...] about being forced to walk instead of run while carrying stone block feels punishing and immersion breaking
