The Biggest Challenge of Playing an MMORPG
0 We’re all going to have our different answers on this one. What do you think is the biggest challenge about playing an MMORPG? To really answer this question, we have to toss aside some of the obvious disqualifiers. The obvious answers that don’t count (but are indirectly valid) would relate to having an MMORPG even worth playing, having one that doesn’t fail after 3 months, etc. Assuming there is a game that’ll last for a while, what challenges do you face? Challenges can revolve around many things: Randomness – Sometimes the odds never go in your favor Mechanical Difficulty – The struggle to overcome some in-game mechanics can be a hurdle Social – Community, groups, guilds, people in general Envy – Everyone always being better than you can be defeating Time – Many people do not have the time to play MMORPGs anymore, or at least the ones that take serious time to ramp up and progress In my opinion, the biggest challenge of … [Read more...] about The Biggest Challenge of Playing an MMORPG
What challenges should guild alliances face?
Alliances will exist in Fractured and apparently feature in-game UI options. Nothing necessarily wrong with that, of course, but I wonder what challenges and obstacles the devs will put in place for guild alliances? In Albion Online, alliances are a major political component... but often chilled content. Mega-alliances dominate the land and there's no disadvantage associated with them. For example, alliances in AO lack friendly fire, so invasion day battles often become giant zerg fests for territory, since there's no challenge or difficulty in just throwing bodies at the enemy and spamming AOE attacks. Additionally, though AO advertises itself as a hardcore game of subterfuge and diplomacy, there's no effective way to betray alliances - no Red Wedding style assassinations can occur, since in order to pull it off you'd have to drop out of the alliance UI in the first place and telegraph your attack. This is, of course, an ongoing chain of thought from my other thread about guilds. I … [Read more...] about What challenges should guild alliances face?
Challenges and Division
Last night unsurprisingly I spent most of the night playing Anthem, and noticed that the lighting in the launch bay is really rather good. They should add a photo mode functionality in here so you could get good shots of your javelin for all the fashionlancers out there. I also spent a good deal of the night hanging out with friends on voice, even though we weren’t actually doing the same things. One more friend made it through the final quest in the main story, so looking forward to maybe just maybe having a group that will be ready for shenanigans soon. In the meantime I have been working on various weapon achievements or challenges as the game calls them. I finished up the two weapons that I had related to Light Machine Gun and made an attempt to start on Machine Pistol… but I just do not think that weapon is as good as it should be. Since it has such a high rate of fire and such a relatively low operating time… it … [Read more...] about Challenges and Division
The Weekly Raid: Will The Gaming Industry Finally Face Regulation?
It has been a bruising month for Chinese gaming hegemon Tencent. First, their US based subsidiary Riot Games was accused of sexism which required major readjustments at the studio. These culture problems also brought to light Riot's declining profitability, with the company on course to run a deficit unless something changes soon. Closer to home, Tencent found itself on the wrong side of the ruling Communist Party's favor and had its license for Monster Hunter Worlds abruptly revoked. This forced Tencent to issue millions in refunds and left many gamers angered and confused. Worse still, the Chinese government followed up with a freeze on all new game licenses. That caught the entire industry off guard, but hit Tencent especially hard as the Chinese version of Fortnite was just getting ready to leave closed beta and officially launch. Reeling from these blows, Tencent responded by trying to be proactive in the face of new regulations that are undoubtedly on their way. The company … [Read more...] about The Weekly Raid: Will The Gaming Industry Finally Face Regulation?
