Conan Exiles Is Now The Best-Selling And Fastest-Selling Game In Funcom History Funcom announced today that Conan Exiles, the recently launched open world survival game, is now both the best-selling and fastest-selling game in the company’s history. Conan Exiles has now surpassed Funcom’s previous record-holder, the 2008 massively multiplayer game Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. That game sold 1.4 million units by the time it went free-to-play three years after its initial release. Kicking off Early Access in January 2017 with full launch in May 2018, Conan Exiles broke this record in less than half that time. After the success of the first DLC, The Imperial East, Funcom is also excited to announce that Jewel of the West, the second DLC, will be launching in early August. The downloadable content introduces new Aquilonia-themed building pieces, weapons, armor, furniture, and more. In Conan lore, Aquilonia is the center of the … [Read more...] about Conan Exiles Is Now The Best-Selling And Fastest-Selling Game In Funcom History

I am no stranger to covering survival sandboxes for Massively OP. I wrestled with dinosaurs before ARK: Survival Evolved was a thing. I got kidnapped and tried to drown myself in a puddle, spent days building a glorified shack before hackers or server admins could destroy them, and got a better understanding of what it’s like to be an Asian gamer thanks to Valve’s social experiment. There have been some good memories for sure, but the cancelled games, broken promises, and fact that most of the genre is in an infinite non-launch state are just some of the reasons I’ve been losing faith in online, multiplayer survival games. I love the idea of PvP allowing for meaningful social gameplay, but in reality, I mostly experience only ganking. But without PvP, I generally get so bored of PvE that I run into the arms of a (J)RPG so I can get drama and permadeath in a finished product, often without kids screaming at me to stop moving and just die. But here I … [Read more...] about First Impressions: Struggling to survive in Conan Exiles
As some of you may remember, I wasn’t terribly impressed with Conan Exiles when it first went into Early Access last year. It wasn’t exactly that the game was rough, but just more of the same: free-for-all PvP with people constantly zerg killing each other, now with slavery and some dragons! But Funcom has done a lot to flesh out the game since then. My GDC look at the game gave me hope, and although the PvE conflict switcharoo is really upsetting, I actually have to say that, mechanically, Funcom has won me over. While I normally track my playtime, I have to admit that I spent far too much time playing Exiles. Sadly, I didn’t get to experience clans, god summoning, purges, teleportation, massive battles, or slavery, but it wasn’t from a lack of trying. In fact, Conan Exiles should give all of us, PvE players included, a reason to pay more attention to the survival genre. Restarting in Conan’s world Logging back … [Read more...] about Returning to Conan Exiles: Praise for Funcom’s progress on PvE and PvP
Funcom’s survivalbox Conan Exiles has officially shed early access and entered final launch as of today – that’s on PC, PS4, and Xbox One – having sold a reported one million copies in the lead up to release. You may have thought that last month’s patch – with the combat revamp and fast travel – was the big show, but you’d be wrong. In fact, there’s a huge download for the day-one patch (and patch notes) waiting for you no matter your platform. As our hands-on already previewed, players can expect the massive map update (yep, with the volcano and swamp biomes) and new Derketo religion, plus tweaks for the Purge, the healing rebalance, and too many bug fixes to count. Here’s abbreviated look at our best coverage to date: Conan Exiles is being brought to Asian territories (to the tune of ‘Beauty and the Beast’) Conan Exiles posts brand-new preview video with two weeks to go before launch Conan Exiles just … [Read more...] about Conan Exiles has officially launched with 1M copies sold to date and a huge day-one patch
Conan Exiles is Funcom’s take on an open world, survival Conan world where players write the stories and create the fun with the tools at their disposal. The game is finally exiting early access to launch globally on May 8th 2018, and much has changed. Since our review almost a year ago, the dev team has continued to iron out issues and improve gameplay based on early access feedback. Now that we’re a month away from launch, are the new changes worth checking out? Here’s what’s coming. A New Combat System The new combat system is very different and a huge improvement on the old one. The new system for Conan Exiles will have the brutal, tactical and savage combat which a Conan game deserves. The first thing you might notice is the new visual style. All weapons (swords, daggers, hammers, maces, spears, great swords etc) are getting their own attacks and animations. The attacks consist of a wide range of lunges, sweeps, jumps, cleaves, slashes and dashes. This … [Read more...] about Conan Exiles 2018: Is Conan Exiles Worth Playing At Launch Come May 8th?
