Clock Drive Games has revealed a new dark fantasy ARPG titled Warlander. A trailer has been shared which showcases the in-game dynamics which engages players with “brutal and visceral combat experience”. The game is set to launch in fall 2019. Warlander is a third-person, single-player action-adventure game with RPG-lite elements and linear storyline. Imagine a game where Jedi Knight 2 meets Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, but re-envisioned for the modern sword fighting aficionados! Warlander is based on tactical sword fighting with unique slicing mechanics. Our combat system offers the opportunity to choose weather you would like to engage in skill-based melee mayhem or interact with the environment to turn it into a weapon. The progression system of abilities is based on your choices and your own collection of bloody trophies. As we often joke in the office – think like a Jedi, fight as Conan, and carve your path of vengeance into death or glory! We still don’t know where we’re going for Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers. The keynote from the stage at the Paris Fan Festival didn’t tell us that. But we do know we’re getting there with the help of some Viera and with the brand-new Gunbreaker job. Yes, as always, the keynote for the festival revealed big new chunks of information, and not the least of which was the formal launch date for the third expansion of July 2nd. Of course, that was hardly the only revelation from the keynote, and we’ve got a whole bunch of reveal trailers, information on jobs and areas, and previews of the collector’s edition down below. So if you missed the keynote and want to catch up, here’s a recap of everything we now know, along with plenty of new assets to show off the neat stuff arriving with the game’s third expansion. Extended teaser We don’t yet know if the new trailer we got was the full trailer, but it definitely revealed more. Among the … [Read more...] about Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers launches July 2 with Gunbreaker job and playable Viera
Now that we’re done poking holes in bad logic, it’s time to actually get down to brass tacks of predicting the next jobs for Final Fantasy XIV. And it’s actually a pretty wide-open field at the moment, while also being… well, let’s just say that it’s also a complicated field. There’s space to make predictions, we’ve got hints, but we are rather short on much in the way of hard data about what these new jobs might be. The world is ambiguous and strange! And we’ve got until February to speculate, so let’s get to it, because this year Yoshida saw fit to hint about the next race instead of the next job. A lot of the stuff at this year’s fan festival seemed like it was aimed at subverting expectations in careful ways, which means we also need to take that into account… and talk about leaks again, because that’s definitely worth re-examining in the wake of Blue Mage’s announcement. Two jobs or three? Before … [Read more...] about Wisdom of Nym: Making proper predictions about Final Fantasy XIV’s next jobs
Well, gosh. That was sure a lot of news for Final Fantasy XIV over a weekend, huh? Expected news, sure, but therein lie some of my positive feelings, as the big announcement reveal on Friday was something we all knew was going to happen, with a title that we had found out months earlier, and with a dearth of actual details (as remarked below)… and yet we were all still on the edge of our seats when it happened. This was a master class in how to structure reveals and delight your audience, and anyone else trying to do so should be taking notes. There’s also material for malms that’s ripe for discussion, so I necessarily have to narrow my focus. Therefore, this column is going to focus on the three “biggest” announcements from this particular fan festival. The existence of Shadowbringers, the plans for Blue Mage, and the upcoming data center reorganization. And we’re going to be hitting some quick high notes rather than dissecting … [Read more...] about Wisdom of Nym: The first reactions to Final Fantasy XIV’s fan festival
The plan was to fan a spark into a flame, but now it’s getting dark, so who’ll remember your name? (Apologies to Lin-Manuel Miranda for that.) Yes, it turns out that we are indeed getting another new expansion for Final Fantasy XIV (not a surprise) called Shadowbringers (also not a surprise), but the keynote for the 2018 Fan Festival still featured tons of surprises and excitement. The whole thing kicked off with the Shadowbringers trailer, too, and that right away built excitement. A flashback to the adventures of the generic Warrior of Light, showing off every change in jobs, every shift, from the 1.0 trailer as an Archer to the Samurai of 4.0… followed by a transformation into Dark Knight. There were also signs of ruined flags, wreckage, and Thancred with a mysterious girl in white and a gunblade on his back. So we’re covering a lot of ground. Of course, we didn’t get anything held back shortly thereafter; we were immediately told that the expansion is … [Read more...] about FFXIV Fan Festival 2018: Shadowbringers promises new story, new regions, and new jobs
