One major change I loved about DA2 (and likely had a hand in improving the storytelling) was a fully-voiced and expressive Hawke. I can deal with silent, but I can’t tell you how frustrating it was in DA:O to see my Warden stare blankly into space like a storefront mannequin even during the most emotional situations. In DA2 I delighted in having my Hawke wrinkle her nose in disgust, narrow her eyes in annoyance, or raise her eyebrows in a questioning manner. It made my character feel like a more realistic and unique individual, and like in Mass Effect, being able to give responses that reflected different emotions (nice, sarcastic, aggressive, etc.) also allowed for some downright hilarious quest situations. … [Read more...] about A Champion Has Risen – Thoughts On Dragon Age II

Top 5 Reasons Why We Need A New Dragon Age In 2019
Which Combat System Will Bioware Use? Another reason for wanting to see a new Dragon Age game, is to see how BioWare improves the gameplay. Dragon Age: Origins is one of the best party-based RPG games of all time, and anyone disputing that clearly hasn’t played enough of it. The top-down party view in combat was a great homage to BioWare’s older classics like Baldur’s Gate, yet felt modern enough to keep it fresh. Dragon Age II introduced a new action combat system that seemed to cater to the younger generation who care about fast and flashy pixels. It wasn’t that bad and it did feel good, pity the game didn’t deliver on other fronts. In Inquisition, BioWare went back to the drawing board to mix both Origin’s and II’s combat into one giant mess that felt confusing. Therefore, Dragon Age 4 or whatever it will be called, will have to get the combat just right. … [Read more...] about Top 5 Reasons Why We Need A New Dragon Age In 2019

Similarly you have to deal with all manner of moral and ethical decisions as you engage with your crew. Some will attempt to bribe you to look the other way as various things happen. There is one specific event where an undead artist is revealed to have been a lesbian, and after her death the undead have taken to the streets trying to purge all of her art as heretical. Do you step in and preserve her works, or do you let the course of undead society go unimpeded. Similarly there is a general who is by nature a very misandrist character. She comes to you telling you that she and the other female general are not making near as much as their male counterparts. Do you do the right thing and increase their pay, while at the same time angering all the males on your ship? The game does not shy away from presenting issues pulled from our own times, including the ratification of gay marriage. All of which gives the setting and lore that much more … [Read more...] about Dragon Commander: Divinity
EverQuesting: Ranking our favorite EverQuest II expansions
Destiny of Velious, the seventh expansion, snags this honor. I could say that it is the addition of flying mounts to game; after all, flying is one of my favorite things. It also allowed for the Arasai and Fae to use their own wings for flight! See how this is a favorite? it might also have something to do with all that snow and cold, which is my favorite. But it is also because there was just so doggone much to it. There are multiple all-new zones filled with Dwarves and the Othmir otter-people, public quests, the Coldain city of Thurgadin, and more. Cobalt Scar is a particular favorite place of mine. (Although technically not in the expansion itself, a later update during DoV’s tenure was the addition of leapers and gliders, and leapers are an all-time favorite aspect of EQII that everyone must try out. It was expansive. Basically, you really felt like DoV was an expansion! From that point on, however, it seems like meaty content started tapering off in expansions. Even though … [Read more...] about EverQuesting: Ranking our favorite EverQuest II expansions
