Back in October, Google offered a pretty sweet deal to get people beta testing its service Project Stream: Test the service, and we’ll let you play the very new Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey until the test ends in January. We’ll even give you 1000 helix credits (cash shop currency) to get you going. Unfortunately your save won’t transfer and you’re going to lose access to the game, but you’ll have the option to play it to your heart’s content for the next three months. Well the deal just got better. For those who put at least an hour into Project Stream, you’ll be able to keep your copy of Odyssey after January 15 when the test ends, as a permanent addition to your Ubisoft account. The test is still by invitation only, to the best of our understanding, so you might be in for a wait if you’re not already in the test. For those who can have access or gain access, you’ll have until January 15 to clock in your hour. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is one of the strangest games that I have ever played, and you too can play it as it is available on PC with console coming at a later date. The game comes to us from Panache Digital Games, co-founded by Assassin’s Creed creative director Patrice Désilets, and takes place ten million years ago as players take control of the earliest ancestors of humanity. The game hands the future of the species evolution in the hands of players. “I am extremely proud of what my team and I have accomplished with Ancestors. I wanted to make a game about evolution that would help remind us of our shared primal instincts. Once I thought of this concept, I could not shake this idea of struggling, trying to survive in this massive, dangerous world,” said Patrice Désilets, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Panache Digital Games. “Today is a great day because we can now share this game with the real world. It may be a difficult journey but … [Read more...] about [Not Massive] Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey Released
Looking to get your Warhammer fix while you're on the go? Games Workshop and Virtual Realms have just announced a new free-to-play mobile MMORPG set in the Old World of the Warhammer universe. "Morrslieb the Chaos Moon grows large in the skies above the Old World, under it’s wicked visage doomsayers take to the city streets and those creatures who would bring the walls of man crumbling down become ever more bold. However, all is not lost! Those that would stand against the darkness and chaos that threatens civilisation have come together once more, honouring ancient pacts as they did in times long past. Now is the time for heroes, now is the time to forge your odyssey." According to the official press release, Warhammer Odyssey will feature three playable classes: Human, Dwarf, and High Elf; and six classes to choose from: Archmahe, Slayer, Witch Hunter, Warrior Priest, Shadow Warrior, and Engineer. The devs promise regular episodic updates to continue to expand both the game and … [Read more...] about Free-To-Play Mobile MMORPG Warhammer Odyssey Announced
Warning: There’s some spoilers here for anyone who hasn’t finished the story line for Mario Odyssey. Though, at the rate I play these games, everyone else has probably already beat it before me. But hey, better late than never! One of my goals for this year was to complete some of the Switch games that are slowly piling up in a new sort of backlog. Therefore, I’ve been adding Switch game progression to my monthly goal list as well. I’d left off in a snow world in Super Mario Odyssey the last time I’d played it, so I sat down on Friday to put some more time into it. While I wasn’t super close to being done with the story, I also wasn’t super far from finishing it, either. By the time I shut down the Switch on Friday night, I was just on the threshold of the final fight with Bowser. I completed the boss fight and the story on Sunday morning. There were a lot of truly fun moments in this game. I loved the variation of the mechanics they achieved … [Read more...] about Mario Odyssey Story Complete!
I think any MMO veteran has a private list of prematurely canceled games that he or she deeply wishes had been completed and launched. I wish we lived in a world where Project Copernicus was a joyous fantasy world rather than a sour news story or where Interplay had free reign to make Fallout Online. But perhaps one of the greatest “could have been’s” is also rarely discussed these days due to the passage of time: Ultima X Odyssey. The second proposed sequel to Ultima Online showed true promise, an intriguing morality system, and an art style that still holds up today. The more I’ve learned about it over the years, the more I mourn the fact that it died before it was ever born. So what made this game so special? What are we missing today by not having it? Let’s take a trip back to the early part of the 2000s to discover this Ultima successor. The “X” stands for “please don’t let it suck” With Ultima Online, a popular but … [Read more...] about The Game Archaeologist: Ultima X Odyssey
