The esports juggernaut shows no signs of slowing down as this flourishing sector is poised to smash through the $1 billion barrier this year. Games like CS:GO, Dota 2, League of Legends and Overwatch have enjoyed a tremendous boost as a result of the phenomenon that is competitive gaming. It has turned gamers into multimillionaires and attracted all manner of commercial tie-ups, so developers are desperate to break into the esports scene. Yet not all games are suitable and MMO titles in particular must overcome several obstacles if they are to crack this potentially lucrative market. The most successful games in the esports arena are multiplayer online battle arena titles like LoL and Dota 2. First person shooters like CS:GO and Call of Duty are thriving too, with teams like Astralis becoming rich and famous as a result of their successes over the past year. Now Fortnite, which became the most popular game in the world in 2018, is bidding to muscle in. The battle royale … [Read more...] about Will MMO Games Have a Greater Influence on Esports Going Forward?
Any gamer will know how esports has transformed the way that we appreciate video games. Far from being a solitary affair, competitive gaming has helped many top gamers turn professional, and it’s also transformed the way in which we play our favourite games. Many news stories love to focus on how esports has helped video games become a spectator sport. And whilst stories of thousands of people watching events like DreamHack in massive stadiums, and many more viewing live streams via Twitch.tv might be impressive, it’s also clear that esports isn’t just a passive viewing experience. You only have to load up the Twitch.tv site when a big tournament like ESL One is on to see how interactive this esports resource is. Whilst the chat room might devolve into a free-for-all of all manner of outspoken opinions, it’s clear that visiting sites like this helps us understand how the pro gamers have managed to develop the skills necessary to make it to the top of their … [Read more...] about Why esports is so much more than just a spectator sport
Without a doubt, if there were no titles like League of Legends, Overwatch, CS: Go, and Dota, we wouldn’t be able to talk about eSports today. These titles were the ones to first bring video games into the spotlight and turn them into sports. Of course, some people would say that eSports are not actual sports, but many would argue with them. eSports have become quite popular in the past few years, and given the tournaments that have more and more viewers every year, it’s safe to say that eSports will not stop here. Recently, a video game played by two people was watched by more than 600,000 people at the same time. If not else, this should really make people think of eSports as real sports. As we already stated, Overwatch, league of Legends, CS: Go, and Dota 2 are currently the most popular eSports titles. While these games will always be famous for turning eSports into what they are today, new titles are coming and they will most likely make eSports even more popular. The … [Read more...] about Overwatch and LoL Still Main eSports Titles, Could Come To Olympics?
I figured the first article of this year should be one my most commonly asked question and no, it's not another question about my mysterious identity or gender. It's a question regarding whether they should play Black Desert or Blade & Soul! It's going to be one long article, so I hope you're ready for it. Introduction - About Me I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't know me, since I'm a ninja and all. I'd like to say I'm pretty experienced with both games having played them for over a year or two and longer. Both games were my main MMORPG during the early beta phases and releases in various languages. I played the CBT, OBT, and release of Blade & Soul since the early 2012~2015 on and off and Black Desert 2013~2015. You can find my ancient videos on my Youtube Page or my site. I figured now would be the best time to write about both games given I'm not as actively playing them anymore, which can rule out favoritism or that "fresh" new video game feeling. Honestly, I … [Read more...] about STEPARU News, Reviews, Previews & Information for Foreign Games Black Desert VS Blade & Soul 2016 Special
It’s no surprise that Ready Player One was constantly being referenced at GDC 2018, especially in VR, AR, and MMO panels. It’s not just because of the movie’s release but because the tech involved is seeing a surge of interest. That doesn’t mean we’re on the cusp, in my opinion, but it may be a thing we should start talking about. And talking about it we did. As Bill Roper of Improbable and SpatialOS recently told me, “The next generation of online games isn’t going to behave like current-generation MMOs. […] We don’t know what a billion-person game might look like, but it’s likely to include a wide variety of playstyles, to reflect the diversity of its playerbase.” Even if you’re a cynic and don’t think SpatialOS will play any part of this future, Roper’s very much on the mark: Billion-person gaming isn’t going to be like our current MMOs. Roper moderated a panel on the topic, … [Read more...] about GDC 2018: Ready Player One Now, billion person gaming, and mitigating abuse
