I missed a day of Blaugust, but I had a pretty good reason for it. Since I don’t usually post on the weekends, I’ll make up for it today. There’s a lot to talk about. Things have been in a flux for me where it stands in FFXIV. This week I chose to step down as the leader of the FC we established over 4 years ago, and move to a new server, Mateus. This was a process that Syn and I thought out to some extent. Though we hadn’t considered such a big change until just this week, once we’d decided on it, we made the shift quickly. My goal was to transition the folks in our FC to new leadership in a way that would least impact their environment and fun. I started by creating a new channel in our Discord just to discuss what was happening. A lot of different small and exciting (to me) things happened over this weekend. But each of them really deserve their own little post, so that’s what I’m going to be doing this week. I’m starting with the larger one — we finally built the Odder Otter Walls for our Shirogane FC house! Back in May, patch 4.3 brought the Odder Otter walls to FFXIV. When I saw this, I knew I had to have it. This was the first themed house that I felt was a good balance between cute and tastefully designed. One that would be right at home in Shirogane. These walls require a recipe made of items only the FC airship can bring back — you can’t buy these items on the market board. You also must craft the walls within a FC workshop, and the material list required can get quite extensive, especially for bigger houses. So with thoughts of the upcoming Data Center move, we’ve actually had a few of our old Midgardsormr friends contact us voicing a desire to either make a shift to our server or move an alt to our server. This is because Midgard and Mateus will no longer be on the same Data Center, so visitation and the cross-world Linkshell we set up will cease to work.  This got me to thinking about the itsy bitsy friend FC we run on Mateus. This originally started as a solo FC, and was never intended to be anything beyond a place I stashed my RP alts. Mostly because I didn’t want to get hit with FC invites, to be honest.  So it was thrown together and named after my RP blog, which was centered around my RP main, Amon. I never expected folks to move over to Mateus, so when Syn and Amoon came over, I was a bit antsy that the FC was themed after my character and my RP. Over this past weekend, my crafting goals for my RP alt have been met for the month, though I continue to work on leveling crafting every day. On top of that, I got the itch to finally spend some time redecorating the FC house yard this weekend. This was partially due to the new treehouse yard item and the fact that I’ve been holding on to a garden pond that my retainers brought me not long back. The treehouse is a drop from something-something-new-Eureka-zone. I still haven’t done much in the way of Eureka, so when I heard that, I marked the item off as something I’d probably never see… or something that would be terribly overpriced on the marketboard. I was shocked when I saw that it was exceptionally cheap (under 300K each), and I snagged two of them – one for my personal house and one for our FC house. I’ve continued to make progress on one of my major goals for the year: to work on decorating the houses and rooms my characters own in FFXIV. So far, I’ve decorated our Free Company house, both inside and outside — I’m proud that our guestbook has 75 likes! Using the space for my characters’ private rooms, I’ve also designed Amon’s Secret Lab, a small Ball Room, and a Recreation Room (I haven’t posted about yet). Over the past weekend, I’ve more or less finished what I call the FC house Guest Quarters. It’s a place to entertain and house guests who stay the nights (in a RP sense). So it’s basically a glorified guest room. Note these screenshots were taken before Easter, so there are still Hatching-Tide decorations up! 🙂 The main sitting room has a place for light dining… And a place to relax by the fireplace… A door leads to the sleeping area… The beds have screens for a bit of privacy.
