Dragon Quest Builders Thoughts
I thought I would take a bit of a break from the constant stream of Monster Hunter World posts to talk about something else that I’ve been playing. Dragon Quest Builders was originally released on the PS4 and Vita back in October 2016 in the United States. There is apparently also a version that runs on the PS3 in Japan, but seemingly that copy never made it over here. I remember being super interested when I first saw the trailer, but by the time it was released was deeply distracted by other things. Just scrolling back through my blog… on the month it released I seemed to be dabbling in World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, Guild Wars 2, Destiny 1, Diablo 3 and a little bit of Skyrim. Basically it released while I was distracted by other things… and as a result I never actually got around to picking it up. Scroll forward to February, a month where I am mostly in a Monster Hunter Shaped hole… and I notice … [Read more...] about Dragon Quest Builders Thoughts
Jukebox Heroes: The best of Dragon’s Quest X’s soundtrack
While just about everyone knows about Square Enix’s ashes-to-glory story with Final Fantasy XIV, what often goes unnoticed is that the company runs a second MMORPG that stemmed from one of its long-running franchises. Dragon Quest X is relegated to the periphery of our attention mostly because it’s yet to be localized anywhere other than Japan and China. Maybe some day, but certainly not now. However, just because we can’t play it doesn’t mean we can’t listen to it! The Dragon Quest X soundtrack has been out in the wild for a while now, and I eagerly dove into it hoping that it might show some of the excellence that FFXIV brought to the scene. Instead, I got a very odd experience that’s hard to explain. The best I can compare DQX’s score to is very old cartoons or high school musicals where a full orchestra does all it can to provide the setting, mood, and action. The music lays a strong hand on you, which is not something I’m accustomed … [Read more...] about Jukebox Heroes: The best of Dragon’s Quest X’s soundtrack
STEPARU News, Reviews, Previews & Information for Foreign Games Dragon’s Dogma Online Review of Closed Beta
Capcom Japan Dragon's Dogma Online is one of my favorite games that I've tested this year! I've never played the original Dragon's Dogma so the combat mechanics and monster climbing was all new to me. I was a bit blown away and instantly became so addicted that I ended up leveling two of the four playable classes during the Closed Beta and played through all of the CBT1 content. The World - MMORPG or MORPG? One of the most commonly asked questions from my viewers and readers about Dragon's Dogma Online is what kind of world does it have to offer? The most simple answer I can give you is that the game falls in between Action MMORPG and Action MORPG genre. There is one main city, here players can for search for party members, pick up quests, craft gear, change job, hire pawns, etc. Once a party is formed, players can travel outside of town by running to the exit and zoning out or fast travel using the teleport system, as long one person in the party has that waypoint discovered. The … [Read more...] about STEPARU News, Reviews, Previews & Information for Foreign Games Dragon’s Dogma Online Review of Closed Beta
Ragachak’s E3 2019 Final Positive Presentation Thoughts
I wanted to stray away from “winners” and “losers” because, at the end of the day, we all win. Were there presentations that were weaker than others? Of course, and I’m not going to name names, Bethesda and Ubisoft. Almost everything I saw at E3 this year I left pretty happy. Now do I have favorite presentations? You bet your ass I do – Square Enix and Nintendo, hands down. If I had to pick which conference had the majority of announcements that I was excited for, it was probably Square Enix, but Nintendo was mighty close. There are things that of course I’m interested in, like Final Fantasy VII Remake – but I’m not wild about FF7 in the first place. It’ll be good, and I’m looking forward to it, but I think most folks who read my columns by now know which ones I enjoy the most. Do you know what I am disappointed about? No Yakuza announcements yet. Not a one! Neither one of them felt like that they had sixteen Tom Clancy … [Read more...] about Ragachak’s E3 2019 Final Positive Presentation Thoughts
