Summer is approacing fast and that means good things for Final Fantasy XIV or FFXIV for short. This MMORPG had a disastrous launch and its relaunch absolutely blew the gaming world away, turning a beloved franchise into a household name. Its also one of the very last few MMORPGs that charges a monthly subscription in order to play it. But is it worth it? With a brand new expansion coming this June, here’s why we think FFXIV is the place to be if you’re looking for a new MMORPG. The Quality Increases With Every Expansion Everyone agrees that A Realm Reborn is indeed way better than its predecessor. Progression had a better flow, and the game’s engine and graphics are a significant upgrade. But the thing with FFXIV is that it’s never stagnant, and continuously improves. And we’re talking about in all departments. If you thought the Main Scenario Quests (Main story) is good in the base game, it only improves further in the two expansions since. Shadowbringers Expansion Launches Today For FFXIV
Square Enix today will be opening early access to the third expansion, Shadowbringers, for the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. For the first time since the game’s launch, players will undertake a story-driven adventure to the First, as they take up the mantle of Warrior of Darkness. Shadowbringers brings plenty of new features and content to FFXIV. The Main Story Quests continues, and players are free to level to the new cap of 80. The game also introduces two new Job classes, the Gunbreaker and Dancer. In addition, the Viera and Hrothgar are the latest playable races in Final Fantasy XIV. FFXIV: Making Good on a Promise
giving Final Fantasy XIV a try, with the Japanese MMO getting three months to win me over. Surprisingly, it’s managed to hold my attention in a magitek grip ever since I created a new character earlier this month. If my Twitter feed is anything to go by, I’m having a whale of a time. However, if I’m honest, this isn’t my first time in FFXIV. Back in the original beta, rolled a new character and ventured forth, quickly stumbling on a quest to kill ten rats. Only the rats only had three spawn points, and the spawn timer was so low that a growing crowd of players swamped them. I logged out and never looked back, passing on the game until now. That was almost ten years ago. Time passes and games change, but few have gone through as much upheaval as FFXIV. I interviewed producer/director Yoshida-san back when he was preparing to relaunch the game with the subtitle A Realm Reborn, and I couldn’t help but appreciate the energy and faithful commitment he brought … [Read more...] about FFXIV: Making Good on a Promise
FFXIV: Trial Characters Eventually Expire
Free trials have finally come to Final Fantasy XIV, which means more people running around the world of Eorzea. One question that always pops up is how to deal with the army of dead characters that will be created and then never returned to. Square Enix has apparently thought of this problem and come up with a solution. Accounts must be upgraded to the full version within 90 days, or else it appears that the character may be lost. In order to keep playing with the same in-game and character data in the full version, players must upgrade to the full version of the game within 90 days after the Free Trial expires. There are similar setbacks which appear to be aimed at slowing down gil farmers. Free accounts cannot trade, nor can they use the market board, retainers, free companies, moogle delivery service, nor can they use /tell, /yell, and /shout chat commands, and are restricted from creating parties or linkshells. Additionally, it looks like accounts are tied to … [Read more...] about FFXIV: Trial Characters Eventually Expire
