While everyone seemed mad for a WoW Classic beta key last month, the only key I really wanted this summer was the one I got last week — access to GOG Galaxy 2.0. GOG Galaxy is the digital platform for GOG.com, my preferred site for games (some modern, tons retro). Over the past several years, I’ve built up a library of two hundred or so games, and the Galaxy client has become more useful installing and uninstalling them rather than using the website itself. But then I heard about Galaxy 2.0 and the seemingly wonderful promise of being able to funnel ALL of my digital game platforms into one place, and I saw rainbows and unicorns (that’s my wallpaper motif, but I was also pretty excited). Gamers these days know how annoying it is to have to deal with multiple platform clients and try to remember what game is on what and have to struggle with them clogging up memory while they’re all loaded at the same time. So believe me when I say that I was incredibly excited … [Read more...] about Trying out GOG Galaxy 2.0

“Vitality has been improved to play an increasingly important role in Legends of Aria. Vitality is lost as players engage in daily tasks in the world of Celador, from chopping trees and fishing to the inevitable and all too frequent dirt nap. Restoring Vitality will be an essential function to keep your character strong and, most importantly, well maintained vitality is essential to ensure maximum stats and optimum rates of skill gain. It’s worth noting that Vitality regeneration may only be offered by performing musicians within established Inns & Taverns. We hope that these changes create some warm and welcoming tavern experiences, offer up some strictly social, non-combat roles, and also to serve the ulterior motive of combating those who may seek to gain skills unlawfully.” Content retrieved from: https://massivelyop.com/2019/08/01/legends-of-arias-new-bard-system-sounds-an-awful-lot-like-star-wars-galaxies/. … [Read more...] about Legends of Aria’s inspired by Star Wars Galaxies?
Finally, I was able to put aside several hours tonight to focus on Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. I can’t promise this post won’t contain any spoilers, so heed this warning if you have any concerns about that at all. Respect the T3 unit! I’m not very far into the game yet, but already I can tell that much of what I’ve heard about the darker tone of KOTOR II is true. First of all, the Peragus Mining Facility isn’t exactly the happiest place in the galaxy, and the dead bodies lying all over the place certainly don’t help. The companions I’ve met so far, while interesting and thus far benign, nonetheless still give me the creeps. Even the amicable Atton Rand seems like someone I should be watching out for (I can’t help it, after the emotional roller coaster that was Carth Onasi from the first KOTOR, I’m suspicious of all and any pilots who say they just want to “help”). And Kreia…well, do I really … [Read more...] about KOTOR II – Taking Off

The oncoming shutdown of WildStar isn’t the first time that I’ve heard some low-level snark slung against bloggers and players from various quarters to the effect of “You’re not playing it right now, so why are you mourning this? That’s some weird hypocrisy right there!” To me, that ignores a few factors, such as: You can’t always be playing all the MMOs all the time, even the ones you like If you’ve spent significant time with a game in the past and have a connection to it, that doesn’t fade to nothing when you’ve taken a break or left it. Plus, I’ve done my time, so that gives me the right to pine over its loss. Tell me you haven’t felt sad over the death of some musician or celeb that you haven’t spent time enjoying in the past year. When things are taken away that we loved in the past, that can hurt us in the now. You can love a game and not be playing it for understandable reasons, such as a broken … [Read more...] about Would I be playing Star Wars Galaxies, City of Heroes, Vanguard, and Warhammer Online if they were alive today?
