The mobile Blade and Soul spin-off Blade and Soul Revolution launched in South Korea earlier this week and quickly took the #1 spot as the highest grossing mobile game on iOS. Netmarble, the game's developer, had to expand server capacity 4 times already to accommodate the millions of users rushing to try the game. Unlike most mobile spin-offs, Blade and Soul Revolution aims to stay true to the PC version of the game as much as possible, meaning combat will be action oriented and the game will be heavy on story-telling. The game currently only has 4 playable races and 4 classes, but more will be added in the future. An English release is planned for global markets sometime in 2019, but no word on exactly when that's scheduled to happen, but my guess is it happens sometime during the first half of the year. Blade and Soul is pretty much a household name at this point. It’s not super popular – not in the same AAA vein as World of Warcraft or Guild Wars 2. But it has been a corner stone or reference point for pretty much every Asian MMO that has come out since. Many of them have been inspired by NCSOFT’s 2012 MMORPG, and it is still going on as a free to play title. Is Blade and Soul worth checking out in 2018 though? Blade and Soul In A Nutshell Originally published in Asia, a little over six years ago, Blade and Soul has been somewhat successful in the West. Fans here in the west have long been clamoring for Blade and Soul: the flashy anime inspired graphics and the apparent innovation of its highly touted combat system make NCSoft’s newest experience seem like an amazing proposition. Change of Plans This morning I was all ready and prepared to go on an angry tear about the change to specs in World of Warcraft on Legion Alpha. Then I thought to myself… my blog has already hosted more than enough “I’m Angry at WoW” posts that I really did not need to add another one to the pile. I still think the idea is quite possibly the dumbest I have seen yet, but I figure if it does go in… I can either deal with it, or stop playing again and no amount of gnashing of my teeth is going to make a change. I have next to zero clout when it comes to things like that, so better just to ignore it for the moment and try not to get worked up over it. In the meantime however I finally was able to pop into Blade and Soul and give the game a proper try. I talked yesterday about some of my misgivings…. of which there were many, so the game started off on negative footing before I even entered. Last night my friend Liore … [Read more...] about Blade and Soul Impressions
