Last month Arenanet held a Guild Wars 2 campaign called Friend/Ships, asking players to send in their stories of forming friendly relationships in the popular MMO. The campaign brought in tons of stories from gamers who made new friends and even some who went on to tie the knot. … [Read more...] about Arenanet Talks: Guild Wars 2 Friend/Ship Campaign

The game’s Mentor system allows veteran players who own a copy of the full game to don an in-chat title and map icon showing new players that they are here to help. There are currently no active rewards for participating in the mentor program but a ton of people do it anyway, showing off even more just how great the Guild Wars 2 community really is. … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2: Is It The Best MMORPG Social Experience?
GW2 also features a skill system that allows players to easily change skillsets by simply equipping the appropriate weapon type. Although, unlike Final Fantasy XIV, equippable weapon types still depend on the hero’s profession or class. Also, while the available skills seem a bit limited, the system still gives players the freedom to fine tune their hero’s skills to fit their playing style or a particular situation, boss, or mob. Skills are automatically improved as the character gains levels. They can also be manually improved by unlocking and selecting Traits. Traits are passive skills that give bonuses to skills and player attributes. Traits can be unlocked by completing tasks, such as defeating an enemy, completing events, and reaching specific destinations, or by purchasing them using coin, the game’s main currency. Skill-points are also awarded as players gain levels. Like the original Guild Wars, players at mid/late game will always have more skills than they … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2 Game Review
Arenanet has made some strides in making Black Lion Chests more approachable, but despite all the crazy items I ended up with and the exceptional value of them all, I only received one item that I really wanted. The idea that Guild Wars’ world of Tyria is a living, breathing, fluctuating world is fantastic. Path of Fire practically came out of nowhere. We had about a month or so to get ready before we began our hunt for Balthazar, the God of War. I know a lot of people who fell off in Heart of Thorns, and they asked if they had to complete it first. That’s one of the big drawbacks to story-driven titles like Final Fantasy XIV, where you cannot do the new content without first doing old content. The good news, for me and others, is that not only do you not have to complete the Heart of Thorns content, you don’t even have to own Heart of Thorns at all! You can just jump right into Path of Fire. It also comes with a level 80 boost, so you can leap directly into the fray with a max-level character. It will come with level 80 gear also, but my stats weren’t all that ideal on my Necromancer. It worked, though. After all, ArenaNet’s dedication to “no level cap … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire Review
