Yesterday, Daybreak and NantGMobile announced that Jace Hall is no longer consulting on the PC version of H1Z1 known as Z1 Battle Royale, having “reverted back to a player.” Hall was brought on in August of last year as the project lead with the support of the PC community in an attempt to rescue that version of the game and restore some old-school functionality for the title, even as the PS4 version (which got to keep the H1Z1 name in the divorce) surged in popularity and forked off in a different direction. Under Hall’s tenure, we saw the zombie survival side of the game, Just Survive, fail to survive, as well as the apparent collapse of the H1Z1 esports league (which was loaded with financial drama over which Hall presided). “Todays new @Z1BattleRoyale update to S3 means I now return to ‘player-only’ status,” Hall tweeted. “Im no longer admin or involved in dev. It’s been an honor to help where I could & S3 is hopefully now a … [Read more...] about H1Z1’s PC version, Z1 Battle Royale, sees another leadership reshuffle as Jace Hall steps down

H1Z1 is no more. No, it hasn’t shut down. It’s now officially known as Z1 Battle Royale on PC, despite being unofficially labeled as such since last September, following Wednesday’s mega-patch, Return of the King, which General Manager Anthony Castoro described as representing “the first big delivery on the promise that the new NantG team made when it took over development last September: Bring back the game that so many of you fell in love with in the classic ‘King of the Kill’ era around Preseason 3 at the end of 2016 and in early 2017.” Last week, Castoro also characterized the patch as “pivotal in reuniting Just Survive with Z1 Battle Royale,” hinting at a possible return of H1Z1’s original survival mode. I think it’s even more important than that; this patch, and its level of success, will be pivotal in keeping the primary battle royale game mode alive. Let’s take a look at the numbers. Prior to the patch, … [Read more...] about Wednesday’s Z1 Battle Royale Update And Rebranding Might Be The Game’s Last Chance
Season 3 of Daybreak’s PC H1Z1 (or Z1 Battle Royale now, or Z1BR for you hip kids) is coming back in a big way. The new patch, subtitled “Return of the King,” adjusts pretty much every facet of the battle royale shooter from top to bottom. The newly released patch notes go over all of the specifics, but the more salient details include recreated animations, restored run speed, strafe speed, and jump height to Preseason 3-era values, tuning of vehicle and gun mechanics, and even a pass over the game’s world in an effort to “make the game feel like itself again.” Season 3 will also bring Ranked Pro mode for solos, with the patch notes taking a moment to touch on the ranking system changes between Standard and Ranked Pro. On the subject of new game modes, there will be locked increments of availability for the various alternate modes in Z1 Battle Royale in the interest of making sure more players are in the core mode. Arcade Mode will be locked for two … [Read more...] about Z1 Battle Royale declares the return of the king with a massive new update
When Daybreak announced its new investment and development partnership with NantWorks and Jace Hall set up shop inside the company, H1Z1 fans expected big things, and not just for the promised new mobile game. As it turns out, big things are exactly what they’re getting, especially on the PC side of the veteran battle royale game, both in terms of personnel and in terms of updates. As Babagra.pl has covered in-depth, Daybreak’s stream did verify that it’s NantGMobile that is working on the PC H1Z1 – now dubbed Z1 Battle Royale – complete with Adam “Arclegger” Clegg as lead designer, a returning Anthony Castoro, and additional Daybreak vets. Among the highlights of today’s effort are a first pass on PS3-style weaponry, season 1 rewards, dynamic matches, quicker start times, nameplate display options, better jumping, more daytime games, camera tweaks, new event challenges, anti-cheat tweaks, and hosted game options. It’s what’s … [Read more...] about H1Z1’s PC ‘Z1 Battle Royale’ gets its first big update under its new joint studio today
The Battle Royale genre turned from a niche game mod to industry leader in just one year. Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, developed by Bluehole, blazed that trail and hit a peak of 3.2 million concurrent players earlier this year. But what turned Battle Royale into a genre rather than a single hit was how quickly Epic Games was able to spin out their own version: Fortnite Battle Royale. Despite being second out the gate, Fortnite has managed to surpass PUBG by hitting 3.4 million concurrent users earlier this month. Despite being free to play, Fortnite has rakes in over $80 million USD per month according to Superdata Research. That places both PUBG and Fortnite on the list of top 10 highest grossing PC games. The only genre that has more entries in the top 10 is the MMORPG itself. Other studios were quick to realize to potential in this new genre. Games like Paladins and Warframe quickly announced their own Battle Royale modes. These and other Battle Royale games like Darwin Project … [Read more...] about The Weekly Raid: Are Battle Royale Games A Fad?
