We have been talking a lot about what we’ve been playing this year and what we’re looking forward to in 2019 and beyond, but what about the music that has contributed so much to the soul of the MMORPGs that we love? This year has been a great one for new soundtrack releases as well as discoveries of past year’s albums, and I’ve enjoyed a full 12 months of listening through track after track of some of the best, worst, and most mediocre of MMO tunes. As is the custom here on MOP, I get this one opportunity to grant awards as I see fit with absolutely no group consensus whatsoever. In today’s 2018 MMO Video Game Music Awards, I’ll be handing out honors to nine games that truly deserve some recognition with their composition. Put on your headphones and discover the winners below! In going through scores and scores (pun intended) of MMO albums, I’m always open to being pleasantly surprised by soundtracks that were far better than I had expected. … [Read more...] about Massively OP’s 2018 MMO Video Game Music Awards

Phoenix Labs continues to evolve the world of Dauntless with their latest update introducing a brand-new fully-ranged weapon, the Ostian Repeaters, which players can take into battle today. In addition, Dark Harvest, an expansive new Halloween-themed in-game event, will be arriving to the Shattered Isles, introducing a mysterious and savage, new Behemoth. Available for players to lock and load, the Ostian Repeaters offer a totally new way to hunt Behemoths. The Repeaters are a pair of high-powered pistols that change the way Slayers maneuver and strategize on the battlefield, adding new options to Behemoth combat. Slayers can hammer off shots from a distance, but there are big benefits to getting in close guns blazing. The closer a Slayer is to their quarry, the more damage they’ll do. Slayers that are close to a Behemoth can also siphon off some of the creature’s aether to empower their next set of shots while reloading. The introduction of the Ostian Repeaters … [Read more...] about New Halloween Themed Weapons Are Coming To Dauntless

Let’s be real here, I am a sucker for Halloween. It’s my favorite holiday, so you would think I was over the moon about it being included as a seasonal event. And I usually am, but somehow in World of Warcraft it always feels… off, somehow. Just like Q’s Winter Wonderland in Star Trek Online never seems quite right to me, something that just doesn’t fit in with the rest of the game world. Like it’s being added because, well, it’s a real-world holiday and people love holiday events. It’s not just a matter of lore, either; you can always write the lore to justify these events if you want to. But it’s just something subtly wrong about the whole affair, something that makes things feel like the holiday just doesn’t quite belong. So what do you think, readers? What’s the worst fit for a seasonal event for an MMO? Are there Neverwinter events that just feel like they don’t make sense in the game, or Skyforge celebrations … [Read more...] about The Daily Grind: What’s the worst fit for a seasonal event for an MMO?
Spooky Pasta! One of the things I love in the various MMOs I play or have played… are the varried Holiday events. Some of them make an extreme effort to fit them into the lore of their world, and others just cut and paste a real world tradition onto their land. Both have their merits and both are enjoyable so long as they don’t involve too much grinding. Each game seems to pick and choose holidays, but there are two that every game seems to have… Christmas and of course Halloween. Halloween time is generally my favorite holiday because the traditions itself usually involve killing lots of dark denizens of the night. Additionally the playing dress up theme usually means some cool weapon and armor skins that you can use throughout the rest of the year. Currently we are in the run up to Halloween itself, and as a result pretty much every MMO has some form of event going on marking the holiday. Going to take a few minutes this … [Read more...] about Halloween 2013
