For my money, there are few more tantalizing and agonizing thoughts than the great “What Ifs?” of the MMO genre. What if one title had launched while another did not? What if Rhode Island had said, “No, thank you!” to 38 Studios? What if EverQuest Next, Ultima X Odyssey, and Titan were actually completed instead of being sentenced to the Land of Fan Disappointment? While we will never know what might have been, there were plenty of MMO projects we knew to have been killed while in the concept or development stages. Some of these sought to take an established IP — whether that be television, book, movie, or video game — and adapt it to the MMORPG genre. I’ve seen a lot of desperate requests in my day in which players are asking for games outside of the normal sphere of popularity and MMO mainstream (such as it is). We all know what the big games are, the ones that get the lion’s share of the publicity, press, and popularity. But all of that attention can easily blind us to those titles that are quite good if not as well-known, and I believe it’s those MMOs that many players are seeking when looking for an alternative to the games they’ve been playing for years. Milla Jovovich will again be working with her husband as the lead actress in the movie. According to Deadline, Jovovich takes on the role of Lt. Artemis who, along with her unit, is transported to a world inhabited by massive beasts. There, Artemis meets a mysterious man who teaches her and her team how to fight back against the deadly monsters. Jovovich stars alongside Thai martial artist and actor Tony Jaa, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Josh Helman, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Ron Perlman, and Jin Au-Yeung. So far, Monster Hunter will be the only movie premiering on 2020’s Labor Day weekend.
