Great civilizations rise and fall. Nothing made by man lasts forever. Such is the way of things. The same is true of successful video game studios. Success is a double-edged sword. Ask any restauranteur that has attained the highly coveted 3-star Michelin rating about how hard it is dealing with the unrelenting pressure to keep those precious stars. But how do we define success? In the world of video games, executives and shareholders measure success in earnings and stock prices. Others measure success in obtaining high ratings from critics. And some even dare to measure success by the appreciation of their fans. Finally, there is the artist who creates a work of art for himself. Serious video game enthusiasts care about one thing: that the video game they play is the very best it can be. Blizzard Entertainment was once such a company that measured success by the loyalty of their fans, their own love of games and their devotion to excellence and artistic integrity. Back in those days … [Read more...] about 5 Mistakes Blizzard is Making that Distracts them From Making Great PC Games

If you’re looking to invest your money, you might want to check out this new money-making scheme by sci-fi MMORPG Entropia Universe. Play EVE Online for freeJust a few days ago, we awoke to news so unexpected that it made me check I hadn’t time-traveled to April 1st: EVE Online developer CCP Games is being bought by Black Desert Online studio Pearl Abyss for a total of $425 million USD. CCP has also been pretty quick to get a handle on the community discussion surrounding the deal, answering some questions on twitter and holding a Q&A thread on the EVE forum Friday nightt. The player-elected Council … [Read more...] about EVE Evolved: What could the sale of CCP Games mean for EVE Online?

Before sailing out on the fundraising boat, I really wished if more startups had shared how they went about raising funds, especially first-timers. We recently closed an Angel round, and I’m writing out this post to share all that we learned, the mistakes we made and how we managed to close our first round, without any previous experience of raising capital. Sometimes bootstrapping makes more sense, but it didn’t in our case. So we finally decided to raise funds and close this round ASAP, but there was a problem: None of us had raised funds before and we knew a total of … [Read more...] about From Zero to Fifty: How AdPushup Closed $632K in Angel Investment
