LOTRO: I was a teenage Elf janitor
Because this is the only good thing I have for this past weekend’s LOTRO adventures, let me put it up front: Northern Mirkwood, from what I have seen so far, is flat-out amazing. It’s just a huge forest that makes me feel small and like an actual explorer. The devs really struck on a great environment here, and I can’t wait to scout around more of it. With my computer repaired, I spent an entire evening reloading programs and MMORPGs. Did you know that MMOs are big? They’re big. I kind of forget that when I’m not loading up new ones every day, but just try doing about six in a row. They’re huuuuuge. And LOTRO is no slouch here. Even after I had it fully patched up, the game kept crashing on me because I had DirectX 12 and not 9. Because of COURSE you need 9, since this is 2009 or something. Had to install the whole ancient DirectX suite on my computer just to get this MMO running again. Ah well. At least I got LOTRO on my SSD, which is a first for … [Read more...] about LOTRO: I was a teenage Elf janitor
First Impressions: Parkasaurus (Early Access!)
Parkasaurus is a tycoon game where you get to build a dinosaur park. The game comes with cute comic graphics, but it has the depth that one would expect from a typical park-building game – or will have them at some point. It just launched into Early Acess today (with a price of 19.99 €), so not every feature is in the game yet. The developers have a roadmap where you can see what’s still coming. You can also join their Discord server and get in touch with them and the community. Speaking of the developers: The game studio, Washbear Studio, consists of two indie developers. If you don’t want to take the risk of buying an early access game from a small indie studio, wishlist the game and just watch what happens with the development. Now that all of this has been said, let me tell you about my game experiences! I was a playtester before the game entered Early Access, so I’ve actually spent several hours playing the game already. Since I don’t know how … [Read more...] about First Impressions: Parkasaurus (Early Access!)
Wisdom of Nym: Examining Final Fantasy XIV’s housing issues (other than availability)
Play Final Fantasy XIVWhen we talk about issues with Final Fantasy XIV’s housing system, the first issue that’s going to be brought up – invariably – is the fact that there are too many people and not enough houses. Seriously, that’s going to come up in seconds, and it’s going to suck the air out of any further discussion. This is kind of a problem, because while this is true, it’s also not the limit of the actual issues the game’s housing system has. It literally ends every discussion before it starts. This is a problem. Because yes, without a doubt, the dearth of space and the number of people who want houses is a serious issue for the game’s housing system. But there are other issues even once you actually get into the house, and at some point it would be nice to see these things actually addressed amidst the need to address the availability problem. Even once you get the house, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. … [Read more...] about Wisdom of Nym: Examining Final Fantasy XIV’s housing issues (other than availability)
Warframe of Mind: Massively OP’s guide to finding your ‘Frame
When I first tried Warframe , I found that I enjoyed the movement system, and I discovered that I really loved headshots with a bow. (Trust me, either of those two elements was surprising enough separately!) I was having a fun time. I thought I liked the game. But that was before. Before I found The One. My Frame. And my Warframe life changed forever. You might think I am sounding a bit melodramatic there, but I am telling you the difference was that pronounced when I started playing a frame whose abilities clicked with me. I went from enjoying the game to really loving the game. In this frame I wanted to play more! And because I loved being in this frame so much, I started playing enough to discover which weapons I preferred. (Who knew I’d ever really love melee?! But that’s another story.) I even began taking an interest in mods. Now, if you know me, you know that mods are my least favorite thing of any game, so this was huge! I loved my frame that much. That how I got … [Read more...] about Warframe of Mind: Massively OP’s guide to finding your ‘Frame
