To the surprise of no one, we had an interesting discussion in work chat about exactly this development, with the writers who took part in that discussion chattering back and forth about whether or not any of us would be diving right in there. Bree was actually the one who expressed my thoughts before I did, in fact; to paraphrase, what she wants back isn’t the original launch version of the game, but Wrath of the Lich King, and not even really that. … [Read more...] about WoW Factor: Thoughts on the impending arrival of WoW Classic
Impending arrival meaning
The servers are expected to go live at 6 p.m. EDT this evening, simultaneously around the globe, so you west coasters will still be at work, and the Europeans will be heading off to dreamland, but Classic will be up and hopefully functional when you are. We have it on good authority from a source who happens to be intimately involved with Blizzard’s infrastructure that it’s all hands on deck there and at affected ISPs for this launch, which won’t surprise you since the servers – including the new ones added today – were already flooded with people rolling their characters and claiming names ahead of the release this evening. … [Read more...] about WoW Classic’s servers are live – have fun in your queues!

Granted everything I just said, is for all intents and purposes, utter bullshit. I am by no means a lore afficianado, I haven’t even read quest text since about level 40… so in truth I have no leg to stand on. However this all makes a kooky kind of sense to me based on the patterns we have already seen from Blizzard. Worgen would present the alliance with a new Shaman race, but Goblins however I really don’t see solving the paladin racial issue. I am anxiously awaiting BlizzCon just so we can finally get some real information to replace all of this hysteria that currently abounds. Granted I just probably fed a good number of conspiracy theorists with my blog post, but hopefully some of you Loremasters out there can tell me just how wrong I am. … [Read more...] about Losing My Religion
Meanwhile, we’re looking ahead to Guild Wars 2’s underwater update, watching players quibble over Elder Scrolls Online’s and Star Citizen’s business models, debating the state of modern MMO raiding, genuinely enjoying SWTOR’s latest update, being surprised that WoW’s doing so well, and mourning the impending loss of two PWE MMORPGs. … [Read more...] about MMO Week in Review: Star Trek Online is going free-to-play, again (May 6, 2018)
