My wife has long had an affection for Nagrand in World of Warcraft, and that makes sense to me. The gentle rolling terrain looks like the sort of place that would be a delight to live, at once wide open and cozy. Personally, I’d love to be able to set up a home in Final Fantasy XI’s Ronfaure, or perhaps go further afield and nestle myself up in Wajaom. Both of us have a deep and abiding love for the Dravanian Hinterlands in Final Fantasy XIV. There are lots of different zones in any MMO, and the ones we like the most are not always the one that look the most comfortable or welcoming. You can no doubt think of many zones you like exploring that are cool because of surreal landscapes or challenging regions, but are there any zones in MMOs you’d like to call home? Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of … [Read more...] about The Daily Grind: Are there any zones in MMOs you’d like to call home?
Introducing puppy to new home
The latest Neverwinter blog has been published, this time to introduce readers to a few of the creatures that inhabit the Undermountain. Intrepid adventurers may encounter critters like the Basilisk that can turn the unwary to stone and the Ettercap, a fellow that can put players into a sticky situation. Let's not forget the Shambling Mound and the Purple Worm too. All in all, Undermountain sounds like a terrifying place. Shambling Mound Slow and lumbering, this mass of vegetation may seem like a harmless entity but that is far from the truth. This creature is one with its organic surroundings and as such makes it a formidable foe. Whether it is summoning large thorns from the earth beneath you, surrounding you in a mass of vines, or stretching its arms out to hit you from afar, this mighty mound will quickly allay you of any hope that defeating it will be easy. And if you’re thinking you can sneak behind it and keep it from hitting you, well let’s just say you might want … [Read more...] about Neverwinter Blog Introduces Players to the Critters of Undermountain
I’ve found a new home – for now. It’s been quite some time since a game caught my interest as much as Everquest 2 does right now. Yes, I know, it’s ooooold. And the graphics aren’t up-to-date anymore. And there are bugs… even though the game is ooooold. And while it is free to play now, the system still sucks at times (I can buy stuff from the AH but I have to pay real money for each item I want to sell on the AH. No, thanks). But… but… it’s fun! And there are things that I don’t get. And there’s stuff to explore. And there’s crafting. And then I saw the housing. And with that, it had sucked me into its world completely. ;) So here you go. I’ve said goodbye to Lotro (for the time being… I have no idea if I’ll go back or not) and am playing EQ2 (and STO) in my free time. Of course, this is also just me waiting for Guild Wars 2 to come out. But that one won’t have housing either which is a … [Read more...] about New home in EQ2
Rend is enjoying some strong popularity since transitioning into early access at the end of July. To handle the influx of interested adventurers, Frostkeep Studios moved a whole host of North American and European servers over to new and better hardware earlier this week. Since the studio also changed the saga restart timer from 72 hours to 24 hours, it manually reset seven of its servers to restart their sagas and get on this new timeframe. It is even granting bonus AP for any of the server ascensions that happened before Patch 2.1. Patch what, now? The studio pushed out an update this past Tuesday with a huge number of balance changes and several bug fixes. As a result of all of this, talent and skill perk points were reset and will need to be reallocated. Frostkeep also used the patch as an opportunity to warn players that abusing the outcast system is a bannable offense, especially against “new or inexperienced” players. Join the MOP Stream Team today at 2 p.m. … [Read more...] about Rend moves to new server hardware, throws out a huge balance patch
0 This weekend was spent dabbling in a variety of games. I played Stardew Valley a TON. Probably too much. We have a ridiculous operation going of crops into wines and preserves. It’s a little obsessive. I also played WoW a bit to work on my Paladin. And by “work on” I mean just playing some world quests trying to get transmog gear and unlock mounts. It’s a decent distraction for an hour here and there. Graev and I are trying to find something to do (looking for your recommendations please) together. We ended up trying out some DOTA 2 on a whim. A lot has changed in the 4 years since I’ve played. A lot. Before we played I said to Graev, “You realize they’re going to crucify us, right? They’re going to reach their their monitors, grab our souls, and drag us to the depths of hell for being newbs on their team.” His reply was simply, “I enjoy watching people freak out.” So we played. And there was some freaking out. The … [Read more...] about What’d You Do This Weekend: Please Be Kind to New Players Edition
