Co-creator of Counter-Strike Minh "Gooseman" Le joined South Korean game developer Pearl Abyss this last week. Gooseman will not however be working on Black Desert Online and will instead focus his efforts on a new project. While Gooseman is a legendary name in gaming circles, he hasn't had much luck with his most recent gaming project, a tactical shooter called "Tactical Intervention" which shut down last year. Minh "Gooseman" Le made the following comment upon joining Pearl Abyss: I’m very excited to be a part of such a talented company. I was so impressed with the stunning graphics when I first saw Black Desert Online and it still never ceases to amaze me. I think being able to work in such an established company with so many resources will allow me to explore more game ideas in the future. Currently, I’m working on a new project and I’m hopeful that I can bring my 20 years of experience in game developing and a lot of the things that I’ve learned to the … [Read more...] about Co-Creator of Counter-Strike Joins Pearl Abyss to Work on New Game
Back in September during Pearl Abyss’ IPO press conference, the South Korean company reps let loose with a ton of information about the state of the studio, including the fact that it’s working on four more MMOs. “Two games are in development [and] aim to be released in the second half of 2018,” CEO Kyung In Jung told investors and reporters at the time. “The other two aim to be released in 2019 and 2021. All of them are in progress to be network-based games with high-quality graphics by using the self-developed engine.” Now we’ve got a tease about two of those. As MMO Culture reports, one of them is a global mobile MMO – and it’s not Black Desert Mobile, as its setting is apparently quite different. It sounds like an all-ages social game rather than a competitive one, with a goal for meeting other users. The other is apparently a MOBA, though PA founder Dae Il Kim says it still counts as an MMO as he argues – this is MMO … [Read more...] about Here’s a quick peek into the two ‘MMOs’ Pearl Abyss is working on

Get Black Desert on SteamPearl Abyss’ Kyungin “Robin” Jung isn’t just a CEO. He’s also got a background in engineering. He may not have developed any game-saving tech for Black Desert, but at least he’s the kind of boss that understands when his developers’ plans don’t quite work as intended. Maybe that’s why he was also unaware of the Hysteria Hackers problem we’ve previously discussed. It’s something the community managers and customer support should be handling, rather than the CEO himself. Nevertheless, Jung and Senior VP (and translator) Jin “JJ” Jeonghee said they’d look into it after our interview. With the team preparing for E3 and the Xbox One beta, there’s a lot for a CEO to be dealing with. Console wars When I asked Jung about what makes BDO a good fit for consoles, I was surprised to hear that he thought was it was the opposite: that consoles are ready for MMOs in … [Read more...] about E3 2018: Pearl Abyss’ CEO on Black Desert’s Xbox port, Switch considerations, and PvP
