Black Desert Online is a high fantasy, action combat MMORPG that blends theme park and sandbox elements into a huge game world, and it’s probably very well known for its graphics and aesthetics. When creating a brand new character you’ll to pick and choose from a wide variety of classes, all with unique play styles but do keep in mind that they will be gender locked. The good news is, the game does offer the gender equivalent of each class and as an example, the Male Ninja’s counterpart is the female Kunoichi. The Best Combat System Yet The game’s combat system is action based which requires you to manually face and target enemies with your reticule to engage in combat. Each of the classes has their own unique abilities and skills that need a combination of keys, or combos, to execute. There are plenty of in-game visual guides to help you through it which is great, as the learning curve can be quite high at the beginning. As you gain more … [Read more...] about Black Desert Online Review 2018: Is BDO Worth Playing?

Revelation Online is a free to play MMORPG that’s now available to play on Steam. What does it offer and is it any good? What Is It? Revelation Online blends classic fantasy MMORPG elements in a huge colorful online world. It has been around since late 2016, and only arrived on Steam for PC this summer. The game lets you choose between six classes, including the Blademaster, the Occultist, the Swordmage and the Gunslinger. Each feel somewhat unique in terms of an MMO archetype class, and you do see influences from other Asian MMOs like Black Desert and TERA. The Combat System Revelation Online uses an action-oriented fighting system that completely depends on how you react. While in many other MMOs you just click-around with your mouse and then watch what happens, you have to wait in this game for the right moment and click the right keys in order to beat the enemies. If you played TERA you will probably be familiar with the system. You aim with your mouse and you … [Read more...] about Revelation Online Steam Review 2018
Rift Prime is shutting down. Gamigo, who now owns Trion including Rift, announced the server’s closure this week after a year. Let’s take a look back to remember what the Prime server is and how it performed. As an MMORPG, many prior to 2018 will remember RIFT as the one that got away. It checked all the right boxes; fantasy MMO, excellent class systems, loads of content – it had everything you’d want in a theme park MMORPG. RIFT started out as a subscription only MMORPG during a time when World of Warcraft and Star Wars the Old Republic were the big guns on the market. Over the years, it bled players and eventually went free to play, bringing with it a host of micro-transactions in the cash shop that begin the game’s well documented decline. When Trion Worlds announced a new fresh start progression server called RIFT Prime last year, many were excited at the prospect. The Prime Vigil server claimed to remove 90% of things in the cash shop that offered … [Read more...] about RIFT Prime Closure: A Review Looking Back At The Past 12 Months
As part of my New Year’s commitment to MMORPG gaming, I promised to finally give Final Fantasy XIV a proper go. And, over the last few weeks, that’s exactly what I’ve done. I’ve raced around Eorzea on a heroic adventure, uncovered sinister plots, and saved the world countless times. Even as an FFXIV latecomer, I’ve had a blast. But that’s not everything. I’ve also started working on secondary classes, dug into the crafting system, pledged my allegiance to a Grand Company, and even bought an apartment. There’s a heck of a lot to do in FFXIV, and I’ve been desperately trying to sample as much of it as possible. However, all this got me thinking: just how many people are in a similar boat? There’s a lack of good-quality and story-driven MMOs right now, and FFXIV promises to fill that niche in a major way. But is A Realm Reborn still worth trying some four years and two expansions later? To answer that question, I’ve put … [Read more...] about Final Fantasy XIV: The Latecomer Review
As you may recall, I was given just a little time to hit up Snail Games’ ARK Park a few days before I left for GDC 2018. I was able to make it to the games’ launch party, but as I’d already played the game, it was mostly useful for talking to people involved in its creation between speeches/demos. However, afterwards, I was allowed to pass some questions on to Snail Games Vice President Tianqi “Sky” Wu about bugs, science, and the future of ARK. We have some exclusive information about that last tip, but don’t worry, no chief engineers, computer programmers, or lawyers were harmed in the making of this game. Well, not physically, at least. Welcome to ARK Park While I liked the idea of ARK Park from the announcement, I also remember thinking to myself, “Why not just fix ARK‘s current VR issues?” When I asked this to Wu, he replied via email that Snail “envisioned ARK Park as its own title – not … [Read more...] about GDC 2018: ARK Park’s Snail Games on VR, science, and the future of the franchise
