I recently took a sampling of people who play competitive/casual online games through Twitter and my personal social media to chat with people who feed, troll, afk, troll pick, and such through a host of online games. My main question was very simple: Why? What brings you to this point in a game, where you’d throw it away? I’m not going to publish peoples names, and there was no judgment in my query. There aren’t many things more frustrating than trying to work as a team, only to find someone decided you/your team doesn’t “deserve to win”. Whether they pick a Healer for the Hunter role in SMITE, ADC Lee in League of Legends, or simply deciding that you don’t need a healer in Overwatch or Paladins, and before you know it. . . the match is over. Your placements have been ruined, you are back in Silver, Bronze, wherever, and the toxic, rude dirtbags that fill your game win. They made you mad, they cost you your match, and slowly but … [Read more...] about Food for Thought: Why Do People Troll/Ragequit Online?
Kodra and Ashgar as well as occasional fill-in host Tam. For some time Ashgar has participated in the Four Job Fiesta charity event that now helps out the Child’s Play charity. The goal of this is to play through the epic game Final Fantasy 5 using a fixed set of jobs. For those not familiar with Final Fantasy 5, it was a 16 bit era title that allowed you to choose what classes a fixed set of 4 characters would be by assigning them jobs. While in the job they gained abilities that could then carry over into other jobs. This became a min-maxers dream as you could make some extremely broken combinations. As a result for years players have done various wierd combinations of this game for fun, and the Four Job Fiesta capitalized on this and turned it into a grand charity event. For awhile Ash has wanted to do an internal draft of this game, where four of us get together and draft out a viable party made of of the different available jobs. As … [Read more...] about FF5 Draft: White Mage Hell
A Tank Is, and I thought I’d follow up with my own. I almost started with A Healer Is, or A Rogue Is, because people who know me would likely expect to see one of those (and probably be very surprised about the other), but I realized what was going on behind the scenes, as it were, and I thought I’d share here. Indecision? I’ve played a lot of classes through a lot of games. My friends, if they weren’t so nice, would probably call me indecisive or schizophrenic in the things I choose to play. I’ve been a thief (UO), an enchanter (EQ), a druid (EQ, WoW), a rogue (WoW, EQ2, Rift), a tank (WoW, Rift, SWTOR), a healer, a support, everything. It doesn’t always look like there’s a method to the madness, but I’ve realized, for me, what drives me to each thing I play. A Class is Identity http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Black_Mage_(Job) When I pick a class, I’m picking an identity. I’m declaring to the world (or, well, the game) … [Read more...] about A Class Is…
