Steam: Rend Enters Early Access To Mostly Positive Reviews

· August 1, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Team-based survival game Rend has entered early access on Steam this week, and the reviews are so far looking mostly positive. Developed by Frostkeep Studios and published by the same, Rend is a game inspired by Norse mythology that tasks players with building their faction’s stronghold and then of course battling it out with both other players and creatures that populate the landscape. Initial response has been positive, with the game gathering a 75% mostly positive rating on Steam. “Since we first announced Rend, we have been developing it side by side with our players through Pre-Alpha and Alpha testing and by gathering feedback through Discord and our official channels,” said Jeremy Wood, co-founder and CEO, Frostkeep Studios. “Our goal has always been to transform the way players interact and participate in survival games while delivering on the fantasy that they have come to expect from this genre.” Frostkeep Studios is an independent … [Read more...] about Steam: Rend Enters Early Access To Mostly Positive Reviews

Reminder: Steam Will No Longer Function On Windows XP/Vista Tomorrow

· December 31, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Does anyone still use Windows XP or Vista to play Steam? Unsurprisingly, the answer is yes. According to a November 2018 Steam software/hardware survey, approximately .12% of Steam users are still on Windows XP while Windows Vista is, to put it bluntly, presently unlisted. Presumably Vista users are lumped into the .09% currently running “other” versions of the Windows operating system. At least, Windows XP users will making up .12% of the population until tomorrow, as January 1 not only marks the beginning of a new year but the official end of life support for Steam on both systems. Valve announced the end of support back in June of this year, and as of tomorrow the client will no longer function for owners of either operating system. As far as the internet goes, Valve is one of the few remaining companies to have continued support for Windows XP through 2018 along with League of Legends. Blizzard ended support for DirectX9 and 32-bit operating systems in 2017, as did … [Read more...] about Reminder: Steam Will No Longer Function On Windows XP/Vista Tomorrow

Apex Legends’ Numbers Are Impressive, But So It Respawn’s Smart Approach To Development And Marketing

· February 6, 2019 · Leave a Comment

Two days in, and everyone’s still talking about Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends. A game that most people didn’t even know about a week ago has been dominating headlines since its surprise launch on Monday, bringing in generally good praise from players and media alike. It even got a mention as one of the few bright spots in Electronic Arts’ quarterly investors’ call, where CEO Andrew Wilson called it “EA’s biggest reveal ever by peak concurrent viewers, and it quickly became the #1 game on Twitch.”It’s still in that spot as of this writing, drawing in more viewers than the #2 (League of Legends) and #3 (Fortnite: Battle Royale) games combined. Other numbers you might have heard already: Apex Legends had over a million players in its first eight hours and 2.5 million in its first 24 hours (“trending fast towards 3 million,” Wilson said), with a peak concurrency of 600,000. Another number I like to research when … [Read more...] about Apex Legends’ Numbers Are Impressive, But So It Respawn’s Smart Approach To Development And Marketing

Secret World Legends (Episode 100)

· July 28, 2017 · Leave a Comment

THE GRINDSTONE TRIBUNAL: Why? Why?! WHY?! WHY?!! WHY?!!! Dreskar: Secret World Legends is one of those games that physically hurts to play. I feel insulted every time I see the game in action or whenever just roaming around within the game’s world. It still has some of the old charm of Secret World in there but covered in layers and layers of stupidity, incompetence, and greed. This is not a good game, not by any stretch of the imagination would I ever recommend such a piece of shit, and I honestly feel the developers should be ashamed of themselves. All that cleverness that the base game had, was eroded by the awful UI, flashy gimmicks and constant looming knowledge of lockboxes containing better loot. Combat was absolutely atrocious with no redeeming qualities to it, an over reliance on RNG and little else without even basic variety in builds as you are so hamstrung with so few abilities and passives you can’t make anything unique work. This even extends to the idea that … [Read more...] about Secret World Legends (Episode 100)

Atlas Reactor arrives in China via Steam

· May 22, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Play Atlas Reactor nowAtlas Reactor really needs to be given some credit for striking out in a different direction when the rest of the PvP scene was shamelessly copycatting League of Legends and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The turn-based strategy game had more in common with Advance Wars and chess than your typical MOBA and remains rather unique in the genre space. Well now the Chinese can experience that unique flavor, as Trion Worlds announced that Atlas Reactor has arrived in that country and is available through Steam. The free-to-play game is the second (after Trove) that Trion launched in the region and brings the full game up through the current start of Season Six. “Atlas Reactor’s exciting and competitive take on the turn-based strategy genre as well as its compelling cast of characters make it a great fit for China,” said CEO Scott Hartsman. “Chinese players have fully embraced Trove and have been asking for a fully localized version of Atlas … [Read more...] about Atlas Reactor arrives in China via Steam
