51 Inspiring Entrepreneur quotes Every Startup Guy Should Hear Right now

· November 24, 2014 · Leave a Comment

In his latest memoir, “How about never, is never good for you?“, Bob Mankoff, the New Yorker magazine’s cartoon editor since 1997 and the co-founder of its cartoon bank shares how he reverse-engineered his side project in cartoons into a trajectory to the top. Self-education and tenacity leads to seeing rejection, not as a deterrent, but as a springboard for entrepreneurship. It is in rejection, that we find time and time again, the success stories of these entrepreneurs. Now even research undertaken by Cornell and John Hopkins university have shown that people who are able to shrug off rejection and blazing their own individual trails experience heightened levels of creativity, commercial success and problem solving. We now take air travelling for granted but nonetheless of our complacency for human flights, they were a thing of mystery and fascination in the earlier days. The business of modern flights were also a task of electrifying human spirit from … [Read more...] about 51 Inspiring Entrepreneur quotes Every Startup Guy Should Hear Right now

Working As Intended: Westworld is a sandbox MMORPG on your TV

· November 11, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Westworld has emerged this fall as the geek obsession TV show, a gunslinger’s LOST about which people can’t stop talking and theorizing and debating. Don’t worry; Massively OP is not suddenly becoming an entertainment website, but I hope you’ll indulge me for a round of Westworld in this edition of Working As Intended because in every episode of the show, I see the MMORPG genre: our players, our proclivities, and our many, many problems. And that’s by design. The show’s premise is that in some sci-fi near-future, wealthy people are able to pay their way into an elaborate, real-world themepark, where corporate gamemasters and engineers and designers control high-functioning human-like robots (“hosts”) in an Old West setting to create whatever roleplaying or entertainment environment the guests are seeking. The players can interact with the robots in extremely realistic ways, from playing cards and having sex to going on … [Read more...] about Working As Intended: Westworld is a sandbox MMORPG on your TV

EVE Evolved: Seven of the best EVE Online fan videos of all time

· January 7, 2019 · Leave a Comment

EVE Online has a long history of incredible cinematics and player-made videos, but that legacy has somewhat fallen by the wayside in recent years. Players still regularly put together PvP compilations and the instructional videos made today are of a much higher quality than those made years ago, but there’s something to be said for the cinematic masterpieces of the past such as the 2009 fan film Day of Darkness II by Dire Lauthris. I think the golden age of EVE videos was from 2007 to 2013 when video recording and editing tech became accessible and YouTube was only just emerging. Some spectacular short films and machinima emerged from this era and became part of EVE Online‘s rich history, and it’s been so long that many new players today may not even be aware that those videos exist. A few more amateur directors have come out of the woodwork more recently, thankfully, with stunning videos featuring more recent high-resolution scenes. In this edition of EVE Evolved, I … [Read more...] about EVE Evolved: Seven of the best EVE Online fan videos of all time

Fraudster Update: Will Adkins and the Open Letter to MMO Bomb

· February 19, 2018 · Leave a Comment

It’s been nearly two weeks since MMO Fallout published our piece regarding the Marvel Heroes Rebirth Indiegogo project, Marvel Heroes and the Diploma Mill of Nostalgia, and the article has garnered quite a bit of controversy by which I mean accusations of plagiarism and a demand that we link to a blog you might formally know as MMO Bomb. Now I’m not here to disparage our fellow denizens on the internet, since that’s the job for our subject of interest, but I’d just like to make a small 100% unrelated anecdote before we begin that when Johns Hopkins university measures the radiation coming off of the sun, they didn’t necessarily bounce their research off of, nor do they need to cite Aunt Sue walking outside and noticing that the sun sure is bright today. But I’m not a jealous person, and since there is the distinct possibility that an ambitious editor in chief of said website (linked above here and below mine) decided to point out to anyone who … [Read more...] about Fraudster Update: Will Adkins and the Open Letter to MMO Bomb

EA’s Loot Boxes Are ‘Quite Ethical,” Says EA

· June 19, 2019 · Leave a Comment

If there’s a company at the forefront of predatory and unethical business conduct in the gaming industry, it has to be Electronic Arts. From the company that brought about the high profile disasters of Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem to the wholly panned monetization schemes originally present in Battlefront II, Electronic Arts has become the poster child for various governments looking to put an end to what they perceive as video game publishers coercing children into gambling habits. But Electronic Arts doesn’t consider what they are selling to be loot boxes, as noted by the VP of legal and government affairs at EA Kerry Hopkins. Speaking to the UK Digital, Culture, Media, and Sports Committee, Hopkins referred to loot boxes as “surprise mechanics” and stated that they are indeed quite ethical. It’s hard not to see this as a company desperately defending its questionable and highly lucrative business practices in the face of increasing threat of … [Read more...] about EA’s Loot Boxes Are ‘Quite Ethical,” Says EA
