Love playing video games? Got lots of original ideas? Think you can make a better video game than what’s out there? Want to get a job as a video game designer, artist or programmer? That was me about 12 years ago before I started working in the video game industry. A few years later, disillusioned, I left the industry and started working for myself. Video games are a huge part of our culture and naturally, lots of people want to get involved. Before you take the plunge, think long and hard before you jump into the glamorous cesspool known as the video game industry. And getting a job isn’t a sure thing, it takes talent, passion, hard work and maybe some connections. Once you land a job, then reality hits you like a ton of bricks. Video game job listings are full of ridiculous demands because they are always looking for “rockstars.” Pro Tip: rockstars = slaves who are expected to do almost anything to be a part of the industry. The truth is that most video game … [Read more...] about The Video Game Industry is Broken: Tales of a Retired Game Dev

The unique looking Japanese Anime MMORPG Caravan Stories developed by Aiming received a new teaser today revealing playable characters, combat gameplay, story cutscenes, system info, raid fights, and more. I actually tested this game earlier this year so let me share some information. The game had a really unique old-school shading style that fits extremely well with the Anime'ish theme, combat gameplay, on the other hand, wasn't that special. During the beta, you can only move your character around by tapping the screen, after some CBT1 user-feedback, they added a d-pad on the bottom left of the screen for the mobile device. PC users can probably move around with WASD or arrow keys. The 1st CBT was kind of plague with a lot of auto-play which was a huge letdown because there was literally no strategy involved. What kind of game is Caravan Stories? It's a hero and monster collection type of game where you can earn NPC characters through story, gacha, or catching normal monsters on … [Read more...] about STEPARU News, Reviews, Previews & Information for Foreign Games Caravan Stories New Teaser Trailer and Information
There were a lot of new MMORPG's that came out for the mobile device last week and Alchemia Story was one of the few that stood out for me due to it being a very F2P friendly game. It's actually a game I would gladly recommend to players that are looking to play a nice MMORPG without spending money. The game doesn't lock you out of any paywalls and you can beat most of the content for free, though the only wall you'll encounter and suffer from in Alchemia Story, is if you can't read Japanese well. There are certain quests that require you to craft or collect materials like Potatoes. Even then I would still suggest trying the game out! The customization in this game is very cute and fun. Once you finish customizing your own character, you will be able to customize your own partner, which is called YOME. Your partner will help you fight battles, navigate your quests, craft items, etc. My main character is a little bit thick, but that's okay! Steparu nee-sama just had too much to … [Read more...] about STEPARU News, Reviews, Previews & Information for Foreign Games Alchemia Story a Super Cute F2P Friendly Anime MMORPG
The battle for your game dollars and storefront participation is on, and we’re not sad to see the competition heating up, finally. At GDC this week, Valve announced that it’s bringing a slew of new features to Steam, including Steam Events, which sounds like a big upgrade over the current event setup; that just alerts you as events in your followed games begin. The new events feature looks more like a calendar, or an agenda, with “personalized” information about ongoing events, broadcasts, and upcoming tournaments. Plus, the library is getting a full redesign (oh my goodness, finally) with the activities plan in mind. The events stuff should be live for everyone later in 2019. That’s in addition to the user reviews revamp the company unveiled last week. Meanwhile, Discord is also up to some stuff that, as Popdog developer Avi Bhuiyan pointed out on Twitter, has flown “remarkably under the radar.” It’s offering verified servers for game … [Read more...] about Steam plans game library and events revamp as Discord begins monetizing ‘insights’ for game devs
