After a successful 'members only' open beta, Old School RuneScape is officially launching on Ocotber 30th and will be open to both members and non-members for free. The mobile version of the game is cross-platform compatible with the PC version and will likely boost the game's playerbase numbers quite a bit. “The next few weeks are going to be incredibly exciting for myself, the Old School RuneScape mobile team, and for Jagex as a whole, as we count down towards the 30th October launch date. It’s been an incredible journey for us; we’ve worked tirelessly to bring the full Old School RuneScape adventure to mobile platforms, as well as enable a seamless cross-platform experience for our current, returning, and new players! Today’s invitation to Pre-Order and Pre-Register the game on the App Store and Google Play is a hugely significant one, and we can’t wait to throw open the doors next month.” The highly-anticipated announcement comes after this … [Read more...] about Old School RuneScape Launching on Android and iOS On October 30

I certainly did not have to twist readers’ arms to get them to bring out a mountain of MMORPG character selfies set against interesting backdrops. Of course, everyone had their own definition of what that should mean… “When it comes to character selfies the backdrop becomes less important if there is an important lore character in your picture,” said Ryuen. “Case in point: My humble Monk managed to snare Firiona Vie herself in EverQuest II for a quick pic before she had to attend to more pressing matters.” She had more box art modeling to do. It’s exhausting, being one of the last of the Midriff Elves in the game. And if you can fly, the entire world can be your backdrop! Just make sure to keep the planet from spinning too fast underneath you. “The city of Metropolis in the morning is a good selfie backdrop, I think,” submitted Mysecretid. “It also helps when your character is a protege of Superman in DC Universe Online, so … [Read more...] about One Shots: Selfie school
I experienced a couple firsts recently that you may not have expected from me, and they can both be summed up in two words: Old School RuneScape mobile. Why so unexpected? Well for one, you might not have expected me to try OSRS (can I call it that?) because I started playing RuneScape only recently; I had no nostalgic draw to the game back in that iteration. Two, I am not a mobile player. I just don’t play any games on mobile, preferring my gaming time to be at my PC. But hey, doing the unexpected can be fun, and I am all for new experiences! This experience included sitting down with Jagex’s Jon Wilcox and Johnathan Bird, who shared info and answered questions as we worked our way through the tutorial together. Now the question is, how was the experience? Would I continue to play on mobile even though the full cross-platform play allows me to move my game seamlessly back to the PC whenever I want? That’s what we are here to answer. Old School goes high tech Old … [Read more...] about Hands-on with mobile Old School Runescape, plus a chat with the Jagex devs
I'm wondering if a mage build needs Perception and Dexterity to land spells more often. How about DD spells? And more importantly how about illusion, charming, psychic attacks, healing or bard skills? For pure Intelligence based, targeted DD spells it might make sense. For psychic, charm and illusion spells (magic schools governed by Int + Charisma) it makes a lot less sense. For summoning or bard spells it makes no sense at all. And it would be a problem for making efficient charisma-based magic builds, as one would need Int + Cha + Perc + Dex to be efficient (with very little health as a result). If Perception and Dex are the basis for hit rates (accuracy) of all types of attacks (melee, archery/ranged and magic), then marksmen and assassins would clearly have a huge advantage, as these are their school-governing attributes anyway. They could then easily stack health (Con) and mana (Int) on top, while the charming mage would have to live with minimum health and carrying capacity. … [Read more...] about Is accuracy rating (Perception + Dex) affecting spell hit chance?
Camelot Unchained has postponed its planned 4th of July beta launch in what Mark Jacobs is characterizing as a “short” delay. “It’s not going to be a year delay or a three-month delay,” he told viewers on stream, reassuring them that he’s expecting it to be a matter of merely days or weeks. [Update: After the stream, Jacobs told Massively OP that he expects a clearer picture of how long the delay will be by Thursday.] Over the weekend, studio reps said it was down to a list of 40 bugs it’s still crunching on; the company is asking existing backers to come help test this week. “The client crash rate is TOO DAMN HIGH!” is the mantra on today’s stream. Longtime MMORPG fans will know that this delay follows several years of pre-beta testing. Last winter, City State Entertainment announced it had received a big cash investment and put the July 4th date on Camelot Unchained’s beta one. At the time, the beta was already … [Read more...] about Camelot Unchained has briefly delayed its 4th of July beta launch because ‘the client crash rate is too damn high’
