Feeling more than a little antsy as you continue to wait for your PvP dreams to come true in Crowfall? You could chew off your fingernails… or you could dip back into one of the core MMORPGs that inspired ArtCraft’s upcoming project. Yes, we’re talking about the late Shadowbane, which ran from 2003 to 2009. Since then, a team of fans have picked up the pieces of the code and refashioned it into the Shadowbane Emulator (SBEmu). Part of this project and the game itself is the idea of doing a complete refresh once in a while, which is why the volunteer team is performing a complete wipe of the servers on June 28th followed by a launch of Season 5 of a new PvP war. Here’s the fan’s elevator pitch as to why you should (or shouldn’t) play this emulator: “This is an incredibly unforgiving MMORPG. It is open, unrestricted PvP with full inventory loot, inclusive of gold (there is a bank and vault system, though). You keep what’s equipped, but it … [Read more...] about Shadowbane’s player-run rogue server wipes to start a new season
Ncis when does new season start
In the Closers update dropping tonight it appears that the nights are for hunters. Hunter’s Night is the name of the first part of the new season, for example, and it’s also the new town hub that players will unlock. This means new mission dungeons, new endgame dungeons, and of course new gear and improvements to existing equipment. Players will also be able to unlock new costumes along the way, so long as they meet the minimum level of 80 to start accessing the new content. The level cap is also being raised to 85 for all characters with this patch, so everyone’s going to be spending some time gaining those levels; there’s also a competition to see who can reach that level cap first, as you would no doubt expect. Combine that with new offerings in the game’s EMP store and there’s plenty to chew on in the update; the only downside is that you’ll need to wait a little while longer, as maintenance is set to start at midnight EST. … [Read more...] about Closers brings its Rogue Agents update with a new season and level cap
Play LOTRO for freeLet us travel back to 2009, when Lord of the Rings Online released its second expansion pack, Siege of Mirkwood. This pint-sized expansion seemed underwhelming with its options (although it did give us one of my favorite zones in the game), especially after the grandeur that was Moria. However, Mirkwood did factor in a new feature that made a pretty big splash with players: skirmishes. Skirmishes were a new type of instanced content that could be scaled in both difficulty and group size, both of which felt revolutionary at the time. They threw players into either an offensive or defensive quest, challenging the group to conquer piles of foes and continue to press onward by claiming flags, defending areas, and defeating optional side objectives. To make matters even more interesting, players got to bring along a soldier companion to assist, and this soldier could be modified and trained to become more effective. People, by and large, really liked this system, but for … [Read more...] about LOTRO Legendarium: Are the new seasonal instances a win or a whimper?
My weekend was largely dominated by the launch of Diablo 3 Season 9, and the Darkening of Tristram event. Up until this point I had not really touched any of the anniversary content, and to be honest the season beginning had completely slipped my mind until Grace asked me if we were doing our usual push. It has become a bit of a tradition to hang out Friday night and push as far as we can. While I rarely actually make it to 70 that first night, we both end up with a good head start into the season. This time around however we opted to do the Darkening of Tristram content… which is essentially a 16 plus level Greater Rift. I say plus because there are a number of offshoots that grant access to boss battles like the Skeleton King and other side areas. The interesting thing is that as much as I was not feeling Diablo 2… I absolutely enjoyed the weird nostalgic romp that is the darkening content. Basically glorious retrovision was … [Read more...] about Diablo 3 Season Start and Anniversary Event
Play ArcheAge for freeArcheAge’s 4.5 update is going live tonight, complete with raise-able dragon battle mounts and shadow invasion content provoked when big world bosses are downed. But what most players are probably looking forward to the most is the introduction of new fresh start servers. “ArcheAge: Legends Return introduces two new progression servers, Nui and Ezi, for North America and Europe respectively. Nui and Ezi will offer time-locked content for the first time in ArcheAge, starting with low caps and systems from the game’s original launch and developing major systems, like Castle Sieges and Hero Elections, over time.” As we’ve previously covered, some players are already worried about the potential for pay-to-win messes on the fresh start server. But Trion is downplaying that: “Marketplace restrictions will be in place to ensure that as the servers open, players will be placed on even footing through marketplace and gear progress … [Read more...] about ArcheAge 4.5 Legends Return launches tonight with new fresh start servers
