Last week, we announced our award for MMO of the Year; it once again went to Final Fantasy XIV. You might notice that XIV didn’t actually launch this year; it was eligible for our award, however, because years back we expanded the category to include MMOs that launched before 2015, primarily in the hopes of avoiding a repeat of our 2014 “nothing” vote. But it’s certainly possible to whittle it down to just a list of MMOs and similar games that launched strictly in 2018. So which one is the best? Let’s find out. For the purposes of this poll, we’ve included a wide range of newish MMORPGs, MMOs, and MMO-adjacent multiplayer sandboxes, but not battle royale games, MOBAs, or shooters, since those are another orbit out. We also included a range of games in various states of launch, from completely and totally out of the gate to early access. I’m a little more excited this week. Why? Because your two favorite Byte’s were actually being streamed over at G-STAR 2018. You know, one of the largest gaming conventions in South Korea? Yeah. Our faces were on the huge, mounted TV from DG Entertainment. Let’s kick this off with a big one! Yes, we finally have news on Star Citizen! The ridiculously crowd-funded sci-fi MMO that has an expected release date in 2037. If you thought this one was dead.. then you were kinda right. It’s dead, but not so dead that the playerbase has all but abandoned it.. yet. There are still a couple hundred players occupying the game and this update is aimed at them. Sorry guys – you aren’t getting the Lyn Warden this year. Whoopsie! I’m still wrapping up Heavensward with my wife, MrsStix, but this little announcement got my nether-regions tingly. In Lost Ark news, the game finally entered open beta testing this month and players have … [Read more...] about MMORPG News: WE GOT NEW MMOS COMING! Another week, another round of news. This week comes with several shockers as you can no doubt tell from the title, so go grab a beer and nachos ready because this video’s either going to give you reason to party or cry in a corner! Let’s kickstart this week’s news off with some positive information regarding Black Desert Online. Dynamight Studios, the devlopers behind the upcoming MMOARPG Fractured revealed last week that they had expanded their crowdfunding efforts in an attempt to accrue larger financial backing for the game. If you thought Revelation Online was all but a memory by this point you were pretty much spot on. For those of you playing on Gameforge’s European servers in an attempt to experience what the new updates for Aion bring with it your wait is finally over. I felt like this needed a completely separate segment to discuss, but for those of you that have an Xbox One, Black Desert Online has been slated to release for a … [Read more...] about MMORPG News: Black Desert RU Shut Down, ArcheAge Shut Down? We still have not heard anything from gamigo and their plans with the games they acquired from Trion. Of course, all of this doesn’t necessarily mean that Rift will be closed or that much will be changed for Rift as it is now. But I’m still not feeling too confident and decided to look for alternatives out there. Most of all, what other MMOs are there that give you a good solid housing like Rift does? Thankfully, Massively OP wrote about this not too long ago and even included a nice poll (I love polls!). So according to the Massively OP staff and this poll with the gamers that voted there, Wildstar has the best housing system… Yeah. Oddly enough, Rift didn’t get that many votes. I don’t know why, though. Either way, Elder Scrolls Online appears on that list. I do remember that before I decided to quit playing ESO, I got my very first tiny little free house. I’m not sure how much you can do in this game with the housing, but I decided that this is … [Read more...] about Looking for a new MMO-home
0 I’m starving for an MMO to play. I love PixARK and the myriad of other games I’m playing, but I just can’t go long without a dedicated MMO to log into. That’s a dangerous place for me to be in, believe me. When this happens every 2 years or so, you know the game I go back to and always hate myself over as a result. I dabbled for two weeks on EQ’s Coirnav server. Given recently events over whether or not it’ll be legal for people to do business with them anymore, I don’t feel the greatest amount of security investing any time into the game. If you’re curious what’s going on, some Russian’s assets are frozen and that involves Columbus Nova which is the company someone is going around the internet and deleting any associates to Daybreak. If you’re confused, I think the internet is too. Google it up to learn more. Yeah, maybe I won’t play EQ right now until we see how this shakes out and who else … [Read more...] about I Need a New MMO Before I Make a Big Mistake
