It was the best of years, it was the worst of years for Lord of the Rings Online — but no matter what, it wasn’t a boring year. As this Tolkien MMO entered into its 11th year of operation, we’ve arguably seen more buzz, interest, and participation than we did back in 2017. And that was with the 10th anniversary celebration and the Mordor expansion! As is customary in this column, at the end of the year I like to take a look back at the previous 12 months and see how LOTRO fared. So join me as we rewind the clock to January 2018 and progress through this year for the High Elf highs and the Hobbit lows of this fantasy title! January Following a look back over 2017, we turned a corner and found ourselves looking at an exit strategy from Mordor. I posted a wish list of things I wanted to see happen in and for the game. While not all were addressed, a few of these were fulfilled and then some! It what would become a running theme of the year, SSG spent absurd amounts … [Read more...] about LOTRO Legendarium: Lord of the Rings Online’s 2018 review

Lord of the Rings Online addresses player suggestions, basks in the glow of college class presentations
Lord of the Rings Online players collaborated recently on a list of suggestions for fixes and features in the MMO, and Standing Stone Games responded to them in a fashion. The topics addressed included favoured chest pulls, high-level instance rewards, the legendary item rework, raids, new hobbies, and stat issues. Don’t get too excited over the list, however, as most of the responses are neutral to the extreme. In fact, the players found the responses (many of which were a mere “Thanks for the feedback”) to these topics “cold and uncaring,” which put CM Cordovan on the defensive. “The unfortunate reality of lists of questions that contain a moderate number of things that could be rewritten as suggestion statements is that they are difficult to answer in a way that satisfies the questioner,” he posted in response to the discontent over the answers. Meanwhile, a different community in a college class studying Tolkien through LOTRO delivered … [Read more...] about Lord of the Rings Online addresses player suggestions, basks in the glow of college class presentations

I know there are several folks out there that really hate it when an franchise gets turned into an MMO. This is not a post for you in the least, so I will probably only serve to frustrate you this morning. For me… I love MMOs, it is my favorite type of game, and comprises of the vast majority of games I play. If you check my Raptr profile you will see that the majority of all the high consumption titles are massively multiplayer online games. However every now and then there is a setting that feels like it screams to be an MMO. These are the five settings I want most in MMO form. 5 – Rifts For those who have not been hanging around game shops most of their lives… this title could go completely unnoticed. It never really had the big money marketing that for example Dungeons and Dragons had, but it represents a good chunk of my childhood. I love the palladium system, not because it was some great feat of gaming. Quite … [Read more...] about 5 Settings Prime for MMOs

The days are long gone when only students who enrolled in college with a major in computer science, mastered the art of programming. Those were the days when apart from a college degree, kids used to have a private tutor for mastering the techniques and had an added advantage over their peers, apart from self gratification. For those who might be thinking people like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg were very successful dropouts, the fact is that they had a very strong background in computers and programming since their very young age. Mark even had a private tutor since age 7 and he mastered COBOL and BASIC at a comparatively very young age when others couldn’t manage to assemble a jigsaw puzzle. Bill Gates was building games at an age when others were finding a hard time playing them. The beauty of programming is that you can build whatever you can think of, with a tool set that would guide you through the process. A Computer is basically nothing without a set of … [Read more...] about 5 Best Websites To Learn Coding For Free
