This week I got the opportunity to chat with a couple of the folks behind MapleStory, a game that you may have seen a fair amount of coverage here in recent months. Yes, this game that launched in 2003 is still going very strong, with major content updates coming out on a rather impressive schedule. You see, every time I talk about MapleStory there are some questions that I see revolving the content that I’m talking about and often times I don’t exactly have an answer. Who is the Black Mage, what are these theme dungeons, what’s the deal with the Reboot server, etc. So we brought Nexon on board, and they were happy to provide two of their own to give us some answers; Nam Jun (NJ), Global MapleStory Lead Game Designer, as well as Young Mi (YM), Global MapleStory Leaders of Planning and Designing. Us: What is the current state of the MapleStory story for those that may not have kept up with the game in recent times? Nam Jun: Going back to the story from last winter in … [Read more...] about Nexon Talks: The Story of MapleStory
Persepolis the story of a childhood summary
When I first started playing Warframe, I definitely wasn’t in it for the story. Was there story? Initially, no. There were only crumbs of lore scattered through out missions and quests. You have some recurring faces, such as the brief directives of Lotus (more affectionately known to the community as Space Mom), who keeps telling you where to go, and the amusing snippets from Ordis, your snarky ship’s computer. Many bosses you face also offer a little tête-à-tête — usually with much boasting and threats. But story? No. That didn’t come until later. And still doesn’t come until later in the game. When you start Warframe, you barely have an inkling about any overarching story as you jump from mission to mission to mission. Like most, I was playing for the parkour and the killing sprees and then ultimately the fashion frame. Then one day I stopped just running missions randomly. I finally set out to work through the planets and actually pay … [Read more...] about Warframe of Mind: The story of Space Mom and The Second Dream
According to a new interview with World of Warcraft developer Jeremy Feasel, the team has learned from the mistakes of its past and will put the lessons to good use with the arrival of v8.2. The interview, conducted by Taliesin & Evitel, covers a wide array of topics, but the one gaining the most traction is the one comparing the widely panned v7.2 (Broken Shore) to the forthcoming v8.2 and what Blizzard is doing to avoid the pitfalls of the past. The Broken Shore appeared during Legion and was criticized -- and rightly so -- for feeling too small, too repetitive and for simply not having enough content to keep players occupied in new and different ways. At issue, according to Blizzard, was having the content divided into 12 sections for 12 class campaigns. During Blizzcon, the team admitted its missteps for doling out the story one quest per week with less than exciting activities for players to perform. Looking ahead to v8.2, Feasel believes that this new content will not make … [Read more...] about World of Warcraft Dev Says Lessons of the Past Drive the Creation of a Better v8.2
There is some limit to the development of a character? Like in Ultima Online (if I remember well) you cannot develop all the skills to the maximum level, for this reason you will be forced to team up with other characters, like if you are a warrior you cannot be a blacksmith, for this reason, if you need the topmost quality sword you need to ask to a fully developed blacksmith to forge it for you. So, in this title will be this feature or I can be the strongest warrior, cleric and artisan all on the same character if I play a lot of time? … [Read more...] about There is some limit to the power of a character?
So it turns out the developers behind Worlds Adrift have all melted in the midst of a London heat wave. It’s very sad, as they point out on the latest development entry on the official site. You may wish to stop reading this post and play an appropriate song on the bagpipes. Despite being reduced to a liquid, however, the team has continued working on the game and is hard at work finishing the new creature refactor while completing the loot accumulation on island for patch 0.24. Work is also progressing on fixing the resources dropped by creatures across multiple biomes, as well as things like chat functions working properly on new servers and fixing various bugs. You can see the full rundown of things being developed on the official site, with a fair number of fixes and improvements slated for 0.24 and a few more features expected further in the future. Assuming that the now-melted team doesn’t evaporate, anyhow. (It’s a real risk.)
