Just one hour to go before you too can play World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth! Just kidding, the only thing you’re going to be playing tonight is Queue Wars. And it’s almost here! Blizzard’s posted a handy chart for the global simultaneous release so you don’t miss it. Although seasoned MMORPG veterans will probably be playing something else tonight and letting the rush subside, right? Nobody took off work this week believing play will happen, right? Right guys? Guys? While you wait: VG247 has interview today with Blizzard’s Gary Platner and Terran Gregory loaded with fun quotes. Here’s one that’s gripping and somehow chilling at the same time: “Afrasiabi designed this expansion like it would be the last – don’t hold back, go for the mega, seize the day on design. Everyone on this team is absolutely committed to seeing that this thing is as powerful and relevant as long as we can. […] We’ll ride this thing until … [Read more...] about World of Warcraft’s Battle for Azeroth is launching in one hour – are you prepared?

What do you do when you don’t play World of Warcraft but everyone else all around you does and won’t stop talking about it because there’s a new expansion coming out? You try to find like-minded souls and start up a club, that’s what! “If you do not play WoW or at least have some sort of history with it, you can find yourself in some kind of quasi MMO community minority group. It’s an ‘odd’ phenomenon,” said Contains Moderate Peril. “I really don’t even know what the story other than Alliance vs. Horde,” admitted I’m Not Squishy. “Sometimes it can feel like I’m there’s a big gap in my gaming vocabulary.” Believe it or not, this whole column isn’t just about World of Warcraft today, so dive in to read some gamer essays on Wizard101, Dark Age of Camelot, Elder Scrolls Online, and more! Changing Course When I started this segment of my blog the original intent was to highlight games that are not getting a lot of press and talk about all of the things I like about them. That said since the column is called “MMOs Worth Playing” I knew eventually I would have to get around to talking about some of the bigger names. So as a result I am going to have a momentary lapse of purpose here… and go with serendipity. Today’s is coming on the morning that BlizzCon 2015 starts, and as a result it just felt natural to talk about World of Warcraft. There was never a point where I would not ultimately end up covering the game, given that in many of the discussions I end up talking about it. So here we go… my attempt to create an overly positive discussion about the benefits of World of Warcraft. The Standard In every industry there is a leader that for the most part everyone gets compared to. In the MMO world this leader … [Read more...] about MMOs Worth Playing – World of Warcraft
I stumbled upon a post by the ALT:ernative chat blog asking former and current World of Warcraft players 10 questions. This post is from August, so I was worried I’d be much too late, but in another post, the deadline is stated as… tomorrow. Perfect timing here. :p As you, my readers, may know, I do not play World of Warcraft currently. But it is the very first MMO that I’ve ever played, so there’s a big chunk of nostalgia connected to it! World of Warcraft is having its 10 year anniversary and I’ve got to say that it aged very well. Anyway, on with the questions. 1. Why did you start playing Warcraft? Because of my boyfriend. What a stereotypical boring answer, right? ;) But there it is. We had been together close to a year when he’d let me test the game on his account. He had offered before, but I had always declined, because despite liking computer games, I thought that an MMO was too big of a time investment. Well, I tested on Sunday evening. … [Read more...] about World of Warcraft: 10 years – 10 questions
I’m about to do the most wicked HALO jump of all time! Also, when do we get our own private spaceships, Blizzard? I want a spaceship expansion in WoW, complete with dogfighting! What a weird time this is to be playing World of Warcraft. Everyone’s more or less exhausted the current content, and apart from those leveling up one of the new allied races, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of movement in the live game. Yet there’s plenty of attention being given to the Battle for Azeroth beta — I was invited, but declined politely because I’d rather play a finished game — and lots of anticipation for everything to come. We still have a wait, however. Assuming that the earliest that the pre-expansion patch will hit, there is two-and-a-half to three months before our characters take the next steps on their journey. Lots of time for various projects or to put the game on the backburner and look elsewhere. I’m making slow but steady progress on … [Read more...] about World of Warcraft: I am Syp, destroyer of worlds and quest logs
