Ahh! That header scared me, and I’m the one who picked it! But that’s where adventure leads you, right into the maw of something angry, something with multiple phases, and something who is probably very lonely and in need of plus-sized companionship. So you’re fighting a dungeon, raid, or world boss for the very first time, and you are terrified. No, not of dying — who cares if you die? Death is temporary and leads you right back into the fight soon enough. You’re actually terrified of looking stupid or being blamed by the group for failing the encounter. At the very least, you hope to do just enough right things as to stay unnoticed and survive. It’s your first boss, and you need some pointers. That’s why I’ve arrived to perch on your shoulder, invisible to all others while giving you useful advice. Let’s do this! Ask for quick pointers In those heartbeats before the fight begins, as the leader is performing a ready check, you need … [Read more...] about Perfect Ten: Tips for fighting an MMORPG boss for the first time
Pulp do you remember the first time lyrics
While this column will no doubt be looking at the superhero MMO releases that are currently in development, it’s also here, as we said, to look at the past and present titles in this genre. One question that’s been nagging me is why we are so keen to see one of the upcoming titles come out when we already have two games on the market right now. Is it just a desire to see something new? Are City of Heroes fans holding out for a title that mimics their former favorite haunt? Or are the current offerings — DCUO and Champions — not satisfying that caped crusader craving? That’s probably a topic for another day, but this line of thinking nudged me over to check out one of those current superhero MMORPGs for the first time. I’ve never really given DC Universe Online much of a look in the past, but considering this column’s scope, it’s high past time I did. So let me introduce you to Metal Ika, my newfound robot superhero who is bringing lies, … [Read more...] about Into the Super-verse: Trying DC Universe Online for the first time
We have spent a lot of time — perhaps more than is prudent — pining over MMOs that have closed their doors. But I don’t think we’ve ever discussed game studios that we miss. These could be companies that closed outright, like Paragon Studios, or have changed so radically over the years that their current incarnation is nothing like what they once were, like SOE. Do you ever look back in time and say to yourself, “Boy, I really miss that studio!”? Do you have fond memories for how the team used to function and communicate, or how there were specific devs who were active and helped to elevate that studio to a whole new level? Which MMO studio do you miss the most right now in 2019? Which would you love to have back as it once was? Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a … [Read more...] about The Daily Grind: Which old MMO studio do you miss the most?
How many times have you seen this kind of advice from fans of an MMO? “You have to get past the first 10 hours and after that the game really opens up and gets good.” Fauxtaku is being sarcastic, of course, but heck I know I’ve said stuff like this before too, especially for sandboxes that really just flat-out suck for the first couple of weeks until you gain a foothold. It astonishes me that we have patience for games that are bad on the faith that they will eventually stop being bad and become good. We wouldn’t do that at a restaurant. “Yeah, the appetizers and meal suck, but the dessert is awesome.” Why on earth do we pay for that kind of experience in games? So how patient are you when playing an MMORPG for the first time? Has your patience level for early game BS changed over time? Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online … [Read more...] about The Daily Grind: How patient are you when playing an MMORPG for the first time?
Blogging passion comes only in those who have the will to write and share anything with the world, it is not a platform for the light-hearted and the ones who can’t share the secrets and feelings with anyone else. I have been blogging at techfreakblog for a year now and have been really engaged with it. Blogging has been a prominent part of my life and I am really happy that it is. Blogging is an excellent platform to improve as a complete human being and I will tell you the reasons later in this post. Benefits are largely infinite but if you take it as just a source of income then you might well end up messing it up. Blogging should be from your heart and not from your mind, eespecially with a set mind to earn. Knowledge To blog on any subject you need prior knowledge about it! So there could be two cases according to me Case1: You might be blogging on subject that you are expertise on , but to be frank there is no subject that anyone is a master of it. Science and technology is … [Read more...] about Do You Know the Real Time Benefits of Blogging?
