Welp, you can’t accuse Hi-Rez of not chasing trends: Not only is it introducing a battle royale mode to SMITE, but it’s actually just launched a standalone free-to-play battle royale game into Steam early access today. It’s called Realm Royale, and the company is calling it the “first 100-person fantasy Battle Royale” title. You might remember it from its previous incarnation as Paladins: Battlegrounds, a mode originally planned for the MOBA-shooter Paladins (and we liked it when we played it too). “Players begin each round of Realm Royale by selecting one of five traditional fantasy classes. Each class offers a unique playstyle; Mages can soar above the battlefield and rain down fireballs, while Engineers deploy turrets and shields in hero shooter-style combat. […] Each round unfolds in true battle royale style, with 100 players dropping from a zeppelin into a massive fantasy-inspired map full of goblin villages and mushroom forests. Players … [Read more...] about Hi-Rez launches standalone F2P game Realm Royale, a mix of ‘open-world PvP MMO and your favorite hero shooter’

Tale of Toast is giving up on being a free-for-all PvP MMO
We’ve been keeping an eye on Tale of Toast since last year in the lead up to its early access launch back in February. It’s one of those hypercute MMOs that tricks you into thinking you’re in for a fun romp, then whacks you upside the head with hardcore PvP and painful death and corpse looting. That description right there was probably enough to convince some of our readers to close their browsers, but it seems the devs are having a change of heart after the reviews started to pour in. “When we started creating Tale of Toast, we set off with the mind that it would be possible to have a no-rule open world PvP MMORPG,” Toasty Leaf AB writes on Facebook this week. “From feedback, testing and such we have come to the conclusion that while this concept is great in theory, it didn’t turn out as good in practise in our game.” To fix the problem, the company will disable PvP in the game by default and instead create a “brand-new dedicated … [Read more...] about Tale of Toast is giving up on being a free-for-all PvP MMO
5 Painful MMO Reputation Grinds We Won’t Miss
Who loves MMORPG reputation grinds, hands up! We don’t, and we recollect some games that helped us feel that way. 5. RIFT Currently on Live, rep grinds aren’t as bad as they used to be. These days, it’s dimension items and other non-fancy stuff that won’t impact your progress too much if you don’t have it. Why? You can buy the best gear from the in-game cash shop. But back in the day, rep grinds with RIFT’s factions was pretty painful. Many of them often held the key to getting rare items that were necessary for raid clears. Even PvP had factions and were important for getting PvP dedicated gear. On the Prime server, much of this has been toned down for a less patient generation, and that’s a rather good thing. 4. Revelation Online Revelation Online has a very extensive reputation system that will take players many months to master. In exchange, you will receive some unique cosmetics and crafting materials not available anywhere else. Some of … [Read more...] about 5 Painful MMO Reputation Grinds We Won’t Miss

Major PVP Update Shore Hold Coming To TERA January 15th
Free to play action MMORPG TERA is getting a major PvP update tomorrow, January 15th. The update will introduce a new PvP battleground called the Shore Hold, in addition to adding some changes to PvP Firstly, the Shore Hold is a fast-paced, 7 v 7 battleground is designed to get you right into the action. Smaller team sizes means faster queues, and in no time you’ll be racing up and down a sandy beach to capture pyres with action combat-sized control zones. It also features shorter rez times, buff-generating manastones, and a cave dwelling monster to fight. Choose your strategy carefully—time you spend defeating a boss is time your enemies can use to capture pyres, and it’s no fun at all to defend yourself from two kinds of threats at once. Also new in this update, players can use Bellicarium credits to purchase three types of PvP gear: Disciplinary, Harmonic, or Impregnable. These new items do not accept crystals or grant set bonuses, but even one piece can seriously … [Read more...] about Major PVP Update Shore Hold Coming To TERA January 15th
