Last night I had a bit of a pleasant surprise, in that I came home and noticed that Rage 2 in my Bethesda launcher had 30 minutes left on the countdown to being ready to play. I was fully expecting it to unlock somewhere around midnight, meaning that I would not be playing it last night at all. However in theory the Bethesda launcher unlocked the game at the earliest playable time instead of Steam which I believe unlocked it at Midnight Eastern Standard time. Quake Champions alpha was the game that got me to install the Bethesda Launcher so when Fallout 76 forced me to use it… it was no big deal given that I already had it installed on my system. For Rage 2… it just seemed like a decent idea to go ahead and order directly from the company for fear of there being some last minute storefront shenanigans like there have been recently with the Epic Games store. One thing that you have to know going into this discussion… I … [Read more...] about Rage 2 First Impressions

In the end, one of the biggest shames of the whole 38 Studios fiasco is that the MMORPG it was creating and the people who were making it were overshadowed by how it all came to an end in a spectacularly public affair. There was a time that many MMO players, myself among them, were eagerly anticipating the release of the MMO that we only know as Project Copernicus. The art looked fantastic, the single-player RPG set in its universe was fairly well received, and the talent behind the game was all top-notch. It was poised to be among the next generation of modern MMOs — and yet it became one of the last AAA budget titles instead. Today we’re going to take a quick tour through the creation of Project Copernicus before it arrived at the ending that we know all too well. The Dream Team When you’re a rich and famous former all-star Major League Baseball pitcher, what do you do when you retire from the game? For Red Sox’ Curt Schilling, the answer was to set up your … [Read more...] about The Game Archaeologist: Project Copernicus
Forgive me father for I have sinned, it has been forever and a day since I have last blogged. I’ve been tied up with all the tasks and responsibilities that come with being the guild master of a 600 character guild. Honestly for me, that has been a major adjustment. We have always been a small tight knit family of raiders, and with the release of cataclysm some massive changes happened in House Stalwart. In the past, by choice, we had shunned the concept of guild based raiding. Throughout our history as a guild we have been the core of several different non-guild raid groups, and at the tail end of Burning Crusade we struck out on our own and build one known as the Duranub Raiding Company. If you’ve read much of my posts in the past, you’ve followed some of our adventures. Cataclysm however brought into line several things that rocked the core of this group. Namely the guild rewards changes, and the guild based achievement system … [Read more...] about A New Challenger Awaits…
I’ve been teetering back and forth on whether or not I should write this post for awhile now. I honestly thought I had posted my last “WoW” weeks ago. Over the last few weeks playing another game has helped to lift the rose colored lenses I had so long for the World of Warcraft. In the past I would go off, play another game for awhile, and it would remind me of all the things I missed. This time however, all it has done is made me realize all the things I hated. Death Of PVP Rivalry Blizzard has made plenty of bad calls over the years, but it seems that recently the frequency of them keeps happening more and more often. Of all the poor choices, the one that still sticks in my craw the most is what seems like the systematic dismantling of the server community. In every MMO I have played, the server you play on is as much apart of the experience as the game itself. Those that have had thriving vibrant player communities have … [Read more...] about Is WoW the WoW-Killer?
