RuneFest 2019 is a go … a-going back in time, that is. Jagex’s celebration of all things RuneScape will have a prehistoric theme this year, inspired by the Land Out of Time summer update, and you won’t even have to club anyone over the head to go. Unless they steal your tickets, then club away! The shindig kicks off on Friday, Oct. 4 at the Farnborough International Exhibition Centre near London, with the Golden Gnomes Awards, celebrating the best in the RuneScape and Old School RuneScape community. Then it’s on to the main show on Saturday, Oct. 5, which will entertain fans with developer meetups and panels, hands-on time with new RS and OSRS content, an art area, and, of course, “huge game-changing announcements on the main stage.” You can pre-order tickets for RuneFest 2019 on the dedicated subsite for the show. Just try not to step in any dinosaur droppings while you’re in attendance. … [Read more...] about This Year’s RuneFest Theme Is Dinosaurs, Tickets On Sale Now

It is probably not a surprise that players with access to the World of Warcraft Classic demo download have already cracked open the client and started playing… in a way. YouTuber Dodgy Kebaab has posted a video of running about in the classic client in a sandbox server, which means no quests, no NPCs, no… well, anything. But you can see what the Classic client looks like and compare it to things like private servers, which is relevant. There are, to be fair, some graphical differences between the client and the classic game, graphical options which didn’t exist at the time, better lighting, and so forth. There is a button to revert the Classic client back to looking like the 2005 version of the game, which is nice for those who want to experience the game in its most true-to-life version. Check out the video below if you’d like to see the demo before you play it as part of the virtual ticket or just get to see more footage of it when people do start playing. … [Read more...] about The World of Warcraft Classic demo has been cracked open and explored (somewhat)

There’s a lot of interesting stuff to unpack about the World of Warcraft Classic announcement from yesterday. It’s been a project that we haven’t heard anything about for a long while and not something that holds any personal appeal, but I definitely wouldn’t have expected an announcement of a demo for everyone, including virtual ticket holders. That alone is pretty surprising, even before you unpack stuff like the fact that we’ll be limited to one zone per faction. Of course, it’ll also be nearly impossible to be certain if the game is really the same as it one those many years ago aside from judging it against memories, so that should be interesting too. Are you excited with the announcements about World of Warcraft Classic? Is it the sort of thing that makes you want to actually buy the virtual ticket for the right to demo the game? And if you’re not interested in it, are you still surprised at the timing and access for the demo? Every … [Read more...] about The Daily Grind: Are you excited with the World of Warcraft Classic playable demo announcement?
A decade after Star Wars Galaxies’ “New Game Enhancements” hit the game, controversy, grumbling, and revelations still pop up about the notorious decision to overhaul the entire game. Some maintain that it ruined the game, while others acknowledge that what came after actually ended up being better. As the 2003 to 2005 pre-NGE era is quickly vanishing into the distant past, I wanted to preserve some of the history of what the game was like before that fateful patch day. To aid in this project, I asked six Star Wars Galaxies veterans to share some of their memories and stories from that time. Here’s what they had to say about what in-game life was like in those first few years. 1. It was a true sandbox Joshua M.: “I think the big thing back in the pre-NGE era was that the content was what you made it; it was a true sandbox. There were no concept of levels, just the skills you’ve learned and the weapons you were certified to use. You could spend the … [Read more...] about The Game Archaeologist: What Star Wars Galaxies life was like before the NGE
